Evil presents itself in many forms through thoughts , deeds , and words.
Evil definitely has a purpose , to destroy us and to use us to destroy others.

EVIL: Something that is a cause or source of suffering, injury, or destruction: the social evils of poverty and injustice.
I started to answer this question the following way:
Evil does have a purpose, unfortunately. Its a ying and yang of sorts. Without evil, we can't experience the greatness the world allows for.
But you know, I trumped myself. If a person is killed by a serial killer, that usually only creates more hate, not the opposite I initially felt it might. You would think people would learn to love life more dearly etc...but they don't, we harp on the negative instead.
If an evil woman or man gets upset and beats a child, where is the silver lining in that?
So no, I do not feel Evil has a purpose. I could stand for a world with a lot less of it thats for sure!

I view 'evil' as more of yin-yang kind of concept. There are both good and bad forces everywhere and all times there has to be a balance between the good forces and the bad. For every good there exists and equal bad. If there was no evil in the world would you really have any appreciation for the things that we perceive as good? Everything would be the same in that case and mundane. Bad forces show themselves in the form of fear, jealousy, lying etc. We are all influenced by them at some time or another. Having faith helps people overcome those negative thoughts and not let them take over the conscience. "evil" people are those who are influenced more heavily by the negative side of forces.

Evil is doing wrong by God's word and the love that he has for you. The purpose for evil is to turn you from his love and his commandments.

Evil is part of a balance with good.
Without good there can be no evil.
Without evil there can be no good.
Also, women are evil.
You've heard the explanation before I'm sure:
Women require time and money.
So women = time * money
We all know that time IS money.
So time = money
Therefore women = money * money
Or women = money^2
And money is the root of all evil.
So money^2 = evil
And now we see the final result
women = money^2 = evil
women = evil
Women are EVIL!!

Call me an optimist but I don't believe in evil. There is more than one side to ever situation and while looking at only one side, it is easy to say the other is evil without even taking the time to try and understand it.

For other uses, see Evil (disambiguation).
In religion, evil refers to anything against the will or law of the god(s). In ethics, evil refers to violations of an empathetic ideal which manifests as morally or ethically objectionable thought, speech, or action; behavior or thought which is hateful, cruel, violent, or devoid of conscience. Evil is sometimes defined as the opposite of good, or anything that opposes the force of life, for instance. In most cultures, evil is used to describe acts or thoughts which are contrary to an established religion, or which could bring about suffering and death — the opposite of good. To most religious believers evil consists of more than a series of individually destructive or hurtful acts, constituting a powerful and mysterious supernatural or metaphysical force that lies behind individual instances of hurt and suffering. Thus they believe certain acts that are not specifically hurtful can bring about suffering simply because they are inherently evil. At the very least most proponents of the term believe that evil is a moral category whose definition is permanently set and not contextual. Critics of the term argue that it is inextricably bound to a particular religious worldview and that it allows believers to ignore the specific or complex causes for social problems in favor of one generalized simplistic cause (evil).[citation needed]

Evil is having your only Son tortured and murdered on a cross to change the rules in a book you wrote.
Evil is drowning women, children, puppies and kittens in a global flood because people don't worship you enough.
And yes, it has a purpose. I shows us just how much God loves us.

Evil is the deception that is in one's heart. Evil arises from actual or imputed bad character or conduct and is morally reprehensible.
The only purpose for evil that I can see is that it provides a contrast to what is good. It allows us to discern the difference.
