I always wash it, prick the skin, rub it with butter then bake for 1hr - 1hr15mins in an oven at 210C/410F
No point microwaving or wrapping in foil as you will not get the same nice crispy skin... and there is no point having a baked tattie if it doesn't have a nice crispy skin :-)

Quick method: You can do it in the microwave in 3-5 minutes depending on your potato and the microwave. Wash it well, and poke holes in it so it won't explode, and cook for about three minutes (turning it over every minute so it will be even). Give it a squeeze (use a potholder). If it "gives" easily then it is done. If not, stick it back in for another minute or two then check again.
The best method: To bake in the over (you will get a better product) wash it well and prick it with a knife or fork (to let the steam out) and place it on a rack or in a pan with a layer of salt (the salt helps draw the moisture from the potato so it will be light and fluffy instead of soggy and gooey). Bake at 425 for 25 minutes, and then do the squeeze test again. It may take a while longer for a larger potato.
While many folks like to wrap it in foil for tender skin, this makes the potato more likely to be soggy!

Poke some holes in the potato with a fork a few times, wrap it in aluminum foil, stick it in the oven (or toaster oven) and bake at 400 degrees for about an hour to 75 minutes. It's better to bake it a little longer than it is not to cook it long enough -- you don't want it partially raw in the middle.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Meanwhile, wash the potatoes with a scrub brush. Prick them with a fork, then wrap tightly in a foil and bake for about 40 minutes.
Hope that helps!

Make two shallow cross-wise slices on the top of the potato, then throw it right on the middle oven rack at 350 for 1 hour or a little more.
