I saw this movie yesterday...I was HORRIFIED...

In the movie, whole Britain is destroyed by a terrible virus which turns the humans into zombies who kill and eat everyone...
The most terrifying thing is the fact the virus has IMMEDIATE effects, and the attacked person becomes a zombie in less than 1 minute.
In the movie, there are some scary images and horrible scenes, and last night I was so scared that I closed all my windows ( despite of the heat )
I noticed that ,at several times, the virus could strike new victims just because of the psychology and the pity of the characters ( the US soldier who refuses to shot the young child, and he decides to save some humans ; the military doctor who wants to help the two children ; the husband who kisses her infected woman, because he beg pardon ; the helicopter US Black pilot who accepts to carry the two children; etc...)

I never felt such a thrill in my whole life

THAT KIND OF VIRUS CANNOT EXIST, CAN IT ?

No, the instant infection and the way it changed the people into human eating monsters is pure fiction.

The premise to the story is not.

That much is possible. A virus that kills quickly, in a matter of hours or days is possible with a 99% death rate. But unlikely. I would think that it would not be a natural virus, but rather human made.

Great movie though. It kept me interested and I am not into blood and guts. This was not one of those mindless slasher movies.

Well done

Peace

Jim

A virus turning people into man-eating, drooling zombies with oozing sores is the stuff of Hollywood horror films.

However, it IS possible that a virus pandemic could eventually kill MILLIONS of people. Especially in this day and age of mass transit, air travel, and closer contact and living distances with other people can cause fast uncontrollable spreading within hours. It only takes one mutation of a super-flu bug that travels on air.

That's why there is always ongoing research and concern every time a new virus is found, such as the avian flu. For instance, if the avian flu were to mutate to be transmissible from person to person, and not animal to person only, it could potentially have a MUCH graver effect on the world.

The virus from the book The Stand, by Stephen King, is probably MUCH closer to what will really happen. It was a particular fatal strain of the flu that was man-made in a lab for biological warfare. There was a leak in the lab, the technicians were infected and one man panics and escapes before lock down. He spreads it and kills off the world. Scary stuff. It makes one wonder what kind of things we're holding in labs across the country.

Iv seen that movie and its chilling! and its absolutely possible that such a virus could infect the whole country and eventually the whole world.. In fact it has already happened during the middle ages, THE BLACK DEATH " spread across Europe from Asia by rats killing millions in a very short time.

These days with modern air travel such a disease could spread round the whole world infecting most population centres in just weeks.. The resultant death rate would overwhelm authorities adding to the catastrophe.

The film freaked me out too.
What is truly terrifying is that viruses like these are all too possible.
The general populace lives blissfully unaware (and thankfully) of the direction science has taken us in the field of biological warfare.

well, AIDS is wiping out Africa's future at the moment. Why not be afraid of something is actually real, or even better, think of someway how you can help stop it.
