I saw this movie yesterday...I was HORRIFIED...

In the movie, whole Britain is destroyed by a terrible virus which turns the humans into zombies who kill and eat everyone...
The most terrifying thing is the fact the virus has IMMEDIATE effects, and the attacked person becomes a zombie in less than 1 minute.
In the movie, there are some scary images and horrible scenes, and last night I was so scared that I closed all my windows ( despite of the heat )
I noticed that ,at several times, the virus could strike new victims just because of the psychology and the pity of the characters ( the US soldier who refuses to shot the young child, and he decides to save some humans ; the military doctor who wants to help the two children ; the husband who kisses her infected woman, because he beg pardon ; the helicopter US Black pilot who accepts to carry the two children; etc...)

I never felt such a thrill in my whole life

THAT KIND OF VIRUS CANNOT EXIST, CAN IT ?

the basic premise is not unlikely, however....viruses do not multiply rapidly enough to infect someone in days let alone minutes or seconds, it is not physically possible. But for the sake of the film I imagine they had to make it seem that way. Otherwise the film would have been weeks long, lol. As for turning people into zombies.....ummmm no. Viruses are parasitical, they kill thier hosts, end of story. When you see a movie, try to remember that it is just a story, none of it is real.

There was a series on television, possibly in the 70's called The Survivors.
A far more realistic scenario in which somewhere in the World, in a laboratory, a bottle containing a pretty deadly virus was dropped and smashed. Then a picture of planes, ships, cars - all modes of transporting people, people standing at an airport carousel looking fevered, sailors getting off ships and collapsing, etc. The virus was spreading. Rather like the Black Death, some people escaped and were The Survivors. It showed the problems then then had in surviving - nobody to run utilities, nobody to transport food and goods, no petrol. People fighting over decaying contents in fridges, while a few tried to barricade themselves into large houses and united their skills to survive not only the plague, but other people as well.
Pretty gruesome and very realistic. Made me wonder if I had the abilities, and practical skills to survive the aftermath if I survived the plague.

No, I haven't seen the movie. I doubt there is that particular virus in the present arsenal but it does make for some thought provoking entertainment. Have you seen the short lived TV series Invasion? Similar premise. Only it is evolution of a species rather than a viral take over. But the same questions about humanity are asked. You might enjoy it. It was only one season. You can get it on Netflix & probably Blockbuster. Not sure about in store rental.

that kind of virus does not exit. but many equally scary viruses do. none of them work as fast as in fiction.

if you like scary virus stories, you may want to try Stephen King's "The Stand" - the first part of the book, about the sickness, was about the scariest thing i ever read.
