I am a US CITIZEN and I am going to Dover Uk Next week from France on the ferry, when I arrive will I need a pre- booked flight ticket out of Uk before they will stamp my 6 month visitors Visa? If so to which country?

I am thinking of visiting another country after I have been in the Uk for a few weeks visiting friends, will that be good enough or does the ticket out have to be back to USA? or don't I need any ticket out?

You do not need to be in possession of a return or onward ticket to enter the United Kingdom as a visitor, however you will be asked to produce evidence that you can meet the cost of the return or onward journey.

For further requirements see the website below, refer to paragraphs 41-43.

You certainly will need proof in the form of a Airline or Ferry ticket that you will leave the Uk at the prescribed time. The days of roaming around countries without the proper Visas are over get real the UK Immigration people are smart and have heard all the same stories before.

You have a Passport, why would you need any proof that you are visiting? Isn't the ferry just as viable an option for leaving as a plane? You can spend years just bumming around Europe as long as you work under the table and don't set up a permanent residence.

I think as a US citizen you don't need an outbound ticket.

Immigration sometimes insist on one if your from India or Pakistan, but that's just because they're a bunch of inbred racists who think that everyone who visits the UK is going to disappear and start taking state benefits.

They don't have border checks in Europe so you should be fine.
