I’m due to take my test at the end of the month and have started looking around at cars.

Not really sure about what to go for but I know what I don’t want.

I don’t want a fiesta and I don’t want anything that’s going to be really dear to insure/repair.

People keep suggesting KA’s, Micra’s, Corsa’s and Toyota Starlet’s ?

I don’t want to spend more than £2000 and it’s going to be used/second/third hand.

Any info will be fab!

Thanks

With a budget of £2k you're limited in what you can get. The Ka's, Micras, Corsa's are all good cars (don't know about Starlet's). You might want to consider Rover 25's, Fiat Punto's & Peugeot 106 or 206.

Whatever you buy make sure it has lots of service history, & if it's done more than 50k miles, check when the timing belt should be changed (& that's it's been done & not overdue - these things are a couple of hundred to change & a few thousand to fix if they break).

Assuming you're in the UK, the most important thing will be insurance cost, which if you're a teenager will sting you about £1,000 at least! Hondas & Toyotas are in fairly high insurance groups, so I'd rule them out, and concentrate on finding a Clio, Punto, or indeed a Ford Ka. All of these cars are in low insurance groups, they're as reliable as any old car can be, and they're all good to drive. Make sure you get someone who knows about cars to check out any intended purchase, and at that price, stay away from car dealers, as what you'll buy for £2000 will be something they've paid £1000 for!

I would say a Renault Clio.

It will easily be the most modern looking car within your budget, and there's loads to choose from.
the 1.2 engine would be best for you. Low running costs and insurance will be cheap.

The Clio is very safe, comfortable and affordable. I don't blame you not wanting a Fiesta! Corsas are very crude as well, I don't like them at all.

Good luck with your test!

You're right, fiestas are crap. The suggestions r good except the kas' and the corsas.

Mind u, Clios and polos/golfs aren't that bad. This website should help.

Micras are tinny so are Ka's. Corsas are a good car though I would recommend them for a first car

You will just have to see what catches your eye in your price range.... a used car with a maintenance record is usualy a good bet.... and a used car that comes with a tale of many new parts just been replaced will make you wonder if you are buying someone elses troubles.... good luck

Sounds like you are in England or thereabouts. Can you buy a Toyota Yaris there? They are reasonably priced, have great fuel efficiency, shouldn't cost too much to insure, and look good.

Have a look at the parkers website, think it is www.parkers.co.uk they have a used car guide, it will tell you how much a car is worth, what insurance group it is in and they have reviews for safety and things like that. Hope this helps.
