Why is eating home raised rabbits for the table more contentious than raising chickens to eat?

Wild child, yep, you can eat them as you are not a vegan lol. Not much meat on wild rabbits, it is a rich, dark meat with a light gamey flavour.

Can be over-dry like a lot of game, as it is very low in fat. It is best to saute them in butter. I think you would be much better just to watching them playing nicely on the golf course though and stop trying to cause chaos, lol - Aunty Bella

It's simply because rabbits are cute little fuzzy animals, while chickens are big pains in the butt. People don't like killing cute animals, for food or otherwise.

Rabbits are a relatively environmentally friendly source of meat though. It's unfortunate that we have this problem with killing and eating cute animals.

At least in the US, how many people have pet chickens?

Is there an easter chicken?

Though clearly not as much so as dogs and cats, rabbits are considered pets rather than potential food.

Being the card-carrying carnivore, I've consumed both rabbit and dog, but at least in the US, that is somewhat culturally unacceptable.

And by the way, yes, I have a dog as a pet (though not a rabbit - they can't control where they poop!)

Because bunnies are cute and chickens are not.

Here are 2 true stories.

My mother's family used to eat rabbit when she was young but her brother refused to eat it (because bunnies are cute). One day, grandma served rabbit but told him it was chicken. He ate it and said it was the best chicken he ever tasted!

A neighbor of another uncle has chickens. They went on vacation and had another neighbor feed the chickens while they were gone. When they returned, the neighbor who had been taking care of the chickens told them that if they ever decided to eat the big rooster, that he would offer to kill it for them. Apparently it was one mean rooster!

Rabbit Farm.... how long does it take to raise a rabbit into eatable parts.... how much does it cost to buy food for the rabbits against the chicken.... maybe rabbits cost a lot more than chickens

Plenty of wild rabbits in my yard, no need to buy farm raised ones.

Bunnies are fluffy and cute. Chickens are less sympathetic. I think if everyone had to look their dinner in the eye and kill it themself, ALL animal meat consumption would plummet.

Excellent question...

And why do people prefer to have their candy living/animated, like M&M's before they eat them?

It is very strange...
