I'm a proud Whippet owner...I have two...Loki and Calypso. Where are the other Whippet owners? The breed isn't nearly as popular here on the East Coast, USA as it is in England or in warmer climates. (Whippets are NOT typically fond of cold weather!)

Tell me about your Whippets!!

My whippet boy, Jasper, is 4 years old. We sometimes joke that he's a beagle in a whippet body, because he spends his whole walk sniffing, and he's very person oriented. He likes to be close to me so much that sometimes we call him Velcro. So much for that independent sighthound temperament.

And yes, he hates cold weather and rain. His favorite kind of day is in the upper 70s and sunny--he'll just go out into the back yard and bask in the sun.

Oh, and he's afraid of cats.

I have 4. We do lots of stuff Lure coursing, whippet racing, obedience, agility (well 16 yr old Cammy only rests on her laurels any more)
Check out the ASFA site (www.asfa.org) or the WRA site (www.whippetracing.org) for breed clubs in your area.
You are right they are not common pets but there are only 5 breeds more common in the show ring in PA and none more common in either amature racing or coursing so there are a lot of other whippet parents hiding out there.
