You can find better results by checking the source

http://www.adobe.com

They probably have a FAQ or comparison chart on the differences.

cs3 FAR surpasses version 5! Version 5 is a relic.
To check out all the features go to www.adobe.com
There's new layer functions, Adjustment options, sweet as$ tools to touch up photo's like the healing brush, improved clone tool, and patch tool. New filters, adobe bridge (access to all kinds of pics and usefull stuff online) There's more, but just go to the website to check it out.
I would DEFINITLY recomend cs3 version. It's the latest and most current version, and will make your projects go so much smoother and quicker than with version 5.
Good Luck!

Much depends on what work you are doing. I am not sure about photoshop 5, I learnt on ps6 at college while I had ps7 on my home machine and the differences seemed small.

So long as ps5 supports layers it will be OK. Later versions have concentrated on making the work quicker, which is important for professionals but maybe not for you and me.

Another issue is of third party plug-ins and tutorials on magazine coverdiscs. These almost always relate to CS2 or 3. Some plug-ins, specially filters may not work with your version.

The tutorials in magazines, and on the web are a truly great free resource enabling anyone to get to grips with this complicated soft-ware and produce amazing results.

However, if you are happy with ps 5 stick with it until you find your needs stretch its capabilities. That is what I did.

Almost a decade of development. Listing all the changes would be a fairly massive task.

I doubt anybody needs everything in CS3, but most things in it have someone who needs it.
