And if so, do Christians and Jews also believe in Democracy?
Democracy = the belief in freedom and equality between people no matter their religious/non religious beliefs.

after seeing some replies..that said..the next part (by the way the definition was taken from oxford dictionary) and yes I added in the part about religion myself. Because I think it is also a part of democracy that people are free , free from racism , free from judgements just for what they choose to believe. Now if some could plz explain to me, if we believe in democracy why in this section are people always fighting, and pushing others as to what they think one should believe in? Thanx

the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected representatives or directly by the people themselves (oxford dictionary)

Just becase there is a political party in America called "the democrats" does not mean that democracy only has to do with politics. Read the above plz. The only answer Im looking for is , Why are we all sitting in YA fighting over what each other believes? If you step outside and look in, does it not seem crazy to be fighting over this?

I doubt if there's any significant difference.

There are people out there who believe in the same principles as "democracy" ideally does. And there are those who don't even think that they need to worry about it.

And if you could poll them, I'll bet you'd find that the numbers of atheists, christians, jews, etc. on either side would be about the same proportions as in the general public.

I definitely believe in freedom and equality and I think that democracy is the best political system humans have devised yet. It can only be as good as the people of the society though.

Yes, Atheists do. And, from the looks of it, Christians only believe in Democracy so long as it serves the Christian purpose. As for Jews, not a clue.

First my friend, I think you need a little highlight on the correct defibition of Democracy, as it means_ etymologically speaking_ the government of the people, by the people and for the people.
From the greek :
"Demos" =>common people
"Kratos"=>rule/ strength
Nothing to do with religion and everything to do with individuals personal beliefs.

democracy is not a belief, it is a system of government in which the residents of a nation participate in some aspect of its decision-making (usually through choosing representatives/delegates).

this system is aided by a culture that generally believes that other points of view are not only welcome but healthy; religion is only one type of a different point of view. Some degree of freedom to choose is neccesary as well, or the range of voices get narrowed by those in power.

thus, atheists tend to be more supportive of democracy than are those who actively try to limit other points of view. or force others to convert to their way of "thinking."

Absolutely. In fact, I lean libertarian.

What I've always found interesting is that there's a disconnect between wanting to practice democracy in this life yet serving a supernatural dictator in the afterlife. I'm not entirely sure how believers reconcile the two.

Democracy can be easily taken over by power and greed (manipulated) Our current American "democracy" its a classic example. I believe in peace, and individual freedom!

Religion has nothing to do with democracy

democracy = form of government in which the people elect individuals to office.
