Yes, they are joint ventures, but they are seperate entities. Diamler owns Chrysler and Mercedes. Try going to a Dodge dealer to get parts for your Mercedes. Same deal, IAE and CFMI are seperate companies that act autonomously from the "partner" companies.

The two biggest manufacturers of Jet Engines, in the US are General Electric and Pratt and Whitney.
Almost all airliners are powered by one of these two companies engines. In Europe and Asia you have Rolls Royce engines powering many airliners.
