£39 seems to be the cheapest ticket available. It is an adult saver. You cannot save by booking two singles (they are £38 each). I checked two months ahead and there don't seem to be any offers available for early booking.

If you already know the date of your travel - book well in advance - I regularly use the Qjump site (See link below) to check fares and get the best deal - last time I went from North Wales to Milton Keynes for £36 return! (And I am not a student or a pensioner!). Another link that I use is "The Trainline" - they give you info as well on kind of discounts you can get - unfortunately because you are a "casual" passenger - the other option of a weekly or Monthly ticket just won't do

Have a look on local services web sites, eg Central Trains, they often have cheap period return ticket, then look for the Arriva website and see if they have the same, or take a coach.
Sorry - just remembered Arriva is Chester & North Wales & Wirral buses, rail is Virgin trains

Sometimes its cheaper to buy 2 singles than 1 return. I've done that many times and saved a fortune
