I have seen some strange answers to this type of question in the past. One of the worst I saw was from a christian, and went something like:

'God allows some people to suffer so that others have a chance at helping them'

In my opinion there is no 'god', and if there was (big IF) they wouldn't let someone suffer just for the sake of someone else's charitable deeds!

An atheist

Life is getting complicated, difficult even sometimes, so why do we persist, when it'd be so easy to just lie down and die ?!
The reason is, because living is an issue ! Be God or not, we fight through our lives the best we can, that's our only purpose - to fight and never surrender ! Remember what sir Winston Churchill said: we shall fight on the seas, we shal fight in the desert and we shall never surrender...It was said in a context of WW2, but it still has its meaning, though nowadays mostly on an individual rather than national level !

God has given us the authority to rule over our own destinies. He allows us to treat others with kindness or cruelty; it is up to us. Don't blame God for what man has done in his rebellion against God. God tells us how to treat one another, how to live wholesome, happy lives; why don't we listen? Some suffer directly from disobeying God (as in being robbed, lied to or killed), some indirectly (as from being descended from people who ate unwholesome food or believed in false gods).

But there is a big picture that you do not seem to see. All those who have died from either their own sins, or the sins of others, will live again, on an earth ruled by God (the earth is not ruled over by God at this time, but by Satan).

Your only other choice is to become a robot, or a puppet, with no choices to make, just do what you are programed to do or according to how your string is pulled? Then there would be no sin, no suffering, ... and of course, no happiness.

Why do people suffer? Why do we have problems? Why do babies die?

Because we are humans on earth, that is part of this life.

If you are looking for a perfect world where bad things don't happen to good people, where people never suffer or die; a world of no tears, no sorrow, no pain; a world of eternal peace and bliss and happiness and joy....

....why not plan on joining me in HEAVEN?

It is actually all part of God's plan, he doesn't allow these things to happen as torment and punishment, it is because we have lost the way to walking in his footsteps, when the second coming of Christ is upon us he will offer forgiveness to all who will choose to believe and give all a chance at entering his kingdom during a rule of 1000 years.

we are all here to forego our learning process, those in the instance of babies have learnt what they came here to learn, maybe in thier last lifetime, they did'nt succeed in the birthing process,so perhaps they have come back to learn that, things as dementia, etc is part of the ageing process some choose,we all choose our life paths before we come back.

Because what happens in this life is only a test, and only under duress is the true character of a person revealed.
