My son died from the after effects. He lived three years after getting it- but died due to the fact that it left him severly brain damaged. There was no way to communicate with him and know if he was sick or hurting. When he first got it he was in the hospital for 2 months. 1 1/2 months of that he was in a comma. He was 3 months old when he got it and three when he died from the complications. There are 2 forms of this illness. Viral and Bacterial. One is known for it high death rate. The second has a lower death rate (although no less severe or severe brain damage (which can be like a living death). A few children survive and those are blessed. It comes on in the form of a fever. It can make thier back, head or kneck hurt as well. You have 3 days to catch it. If it goes untreated by day 3 they die. The docotors sometimes misdiagnose it for something more simple. The surefire way they catch this is by doing a spinal tap. Because of how serious menengitis is- they have now made a new shot for it. You child already gets the shot as an infant but now as a teen they need to get it as well. It can breed in college dorm bathrooms due to the germs and number of people using the showers. The elderly get it as well.

Meningitis is VERY DANGEROUS. Fortunately, it's not as contagious as, say, chicken pox.

It also matters whether the meningitis is bacterial (more common) or viral. My sister nearly died from the viral type at age nine and was comatose for several months. She's in her mid-thirties now and a fully functioning adult, but she still has short-term memory problems as a result of her illness.

When I was in high school a student at my school died from meningitis. Thursday he was healthy and playing in a basketball game, Saturday he was dead. It's a very scary disease. It can be deadly if not caught at the very beginning, and it comes on really fast.

There is a vaccine for it now. I can't remember what age they start giving it, but I know most colleges require it now. I'm not sure if they'll give it to children, but it's certainly worth it if they will.

It can be extremely dangerous. There are two types of meningitis - viral and bacterial. You should contact your child's pediatrician right away.
There is no need to panic, but do seek medical attention. It's a very dangerous disease.

meningitis is the inflamation of themeninges due to organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi;it is a notificable disease,it is very dengerous to kid because they are more exposed to the causative agents, they pick them up from playing anywhere such as soil, rusty tins and so on,and because they have low immunity they are at a high rate of exposure to it ,i think the kids should be immunized against it,from birth.

It is very dangerous but it also depends on wether it is Viral or Bacterial. Either way they need to be hospitalised but bacterial is a lot more severe than viral and you can die
