When doing save the date cards for the wedding do they actually need a date can they just be month and year? Since the Invitations will be going out in a couple of months.

Is your brother in the printing business or something? Otherwise, why not just use phone calls, e-mail, t-mail (postal) note cards, or otherwise more economical and FRIENDLY and PERSONAL ways to advise friends and family that the big event be "around mid-April of next year" and so on. Call me old fashioned, but a "save the date" seems more like something I'd get from my dentist, not from a friend! I don't need another fridge magnet thanks, I already have several of both actual and virtual calendars and datebooks.

It needs the date, otherwise there's no point in sending it. A Save the Date card allows people to SAVE a particular DATE (ie, not make any other plans for that day), hence the name. They're not going to save the whole month. Either put the date on the Save the DATE card, or don't send one.

You really should put a date on there. The purpose of the save-the-date card is to get people to set that weekend aside at work, for plane tickets, whatever. Without an actual date, it seems kind of silly to send one out at all. It's like asking people to "save-the-month". If you haven't decided on a date yet, go ahead and just send the invitations early instead of spending money on save-the-dates. You should just send them 8 weeks before the wedding. That should give people plenty of time, especially the out-of-towners.

Yes, you need a date...the point of a save the date card is to tell your guests not to plan anything for a certain date--not to keep an entire month open. Also, you don't need to send save-the-date cards at all.

IMO I wouldn't send out save the dates unless I had a date.

It's better if you give a specific date so that your guests can plan for it. A month on average has 30 days, so there is no telling what vacations or errands they have planned all month long. If you tell them exactly when, they can plan around it.

When you save the date, you need to specify the exact date.

Of course, otherwise it defeats the purpose of sending them!
