If you can afford $2200 (online price), the best would be the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U (1080 resolution). At the $1600 price point the best you can buy is the Panasonic TH-50PX77U (768 resolution).

Panasonic 50" Digital Plasma HDTV is my favorite.

I have heard Plasma tv's have a short life span. Maybe you should check into an LCD HDTV.
