I have recently met two people (men if that makes any difference) who insist that if the water in a kettle is boiled more than once it affects the taste of tea or coffee made from it. They don't mention any difference if given a drink made with re-boiled water if they're told it's fresh. What do you do?

That's right. If the water in a kettle is boiled more than once, it will not just affects the taste of tea or coffee made from it, the minerals contained in the water will also lost more. So my advice is do not reboil the water.

I don't think its makes coffee or tea taste any better i just reboil and tastes just as good to me.

The only thing i find that changes the tase of coffee is scorching water poured straight onto coffee grounds just add a little cold water before pouring the hot, i dont think its to do with the boiling of the water.

I agree that it does affect the taste, I've had coffee at my daughter's which sometimes tastes foul because she has boiled the kettle more than once. I always re-fill my kettle every time I make a drink, but I only fill it to the amount I want, (which is usually one cup) so I have to fill it again anyway.

I only put enough water in kettle that required. Saves on fuel bill. However, I usually just top up the kettle as there may be some water in it. If I lived in an area, with very hard water, I'd probably refill each time. I'd also tell those two people to take it or leave it, and that they are welcome to make their own drinks

Reboiled water tastes pretty grim.

Everytime you boil the water it loses more and more oxygen, leaving your hot drinks with a metalic after taste.

Only boil what you need. :)

I put in fresh water each time as I do not like the taste that reboiled water has or gives to my hot drink.
I am a woman.

i always boil once and if any water left in kettle i tip it out and refill with fresh water, it does taste different i think it all depends on the alkali in your water so depends where you live for some people to notice.

That's obviously psychological!! If there's enough water I just re-boil, though if I've not made a cuppa for over a day I'll empty the water and refill.
