Also, any info on good rock clubs or gigs to check out from October 13th to 20th would be really great! Thanks!

Camden Town has a lot of outdoor markets - the closest thing we have here are "flea markets". They are scattered throughout the City. Here are some that are opened year-round - most are only there on weekends
The Hell's Kitchen Flea Market on West 39th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues - outdoors
Sundays from 10am to 6 - indoor and outdoor on Columbus Avenue between 75th and 77th Street
The outdoor flea market on Broadway and 4th Street is open everyday
Weekends - a market on Sixth Avenue between 24th and 27th Street.

If you are looking for a fresh produce market, the best one is at Union Square Park on Fridays and Saturdays.

Buy a copy (or read it at a Barnes & Noble) of TimeOut New York to see what events are scheduled for the week - list of free events, concerts, sporting events, sales, theatre events, street fairs, and much more.

Avenues A and B in the East Village. It's lost some of its groove because of gentrification, but not all. Once on Avenue A walk south to Second Street. Same holds true for Avenue B.

I would say either SoHo or Greenwich Village both are quite funky areas and are quite clsoe to each other

Harlem is good but you need to watch out for muggers. Try SoHo.
