I hate that too....Black was cool, but then someone suddenly decides Silver is cool and the manufacturers follow suit.....

You know what the worst thing is? It doesn't look like it's leaving anytime soon....

But I will tell you this...TV manufacturers seem to CYCLE their tastes...Next thing on the market will be Fake Wood before we see Black again....

Because it's after 2000. Everyone seemed to think that by now we'd have flying cars, hologram watches, time travel, and that everything would be silver. So, the "futuristic" look is pretty popular. And it's not just TVs. Radios, cell phones, computer screens, pretty much any electronic... You can bet if it's silver, it'll sell faster. And that's what companies care about, not the fact that some people prefer black.

I don't know why most tv's are sold in grey or silver, sorry. But when I see a black tv, I'm always reminded of the really old big tv's of the early 90's.

It's fashion unfortunatley. Companies make what they think sells and they think silver sells and because that's all you can buy that's what sells. You can buy some flat screen ones with a black edging which if you hung on the wall you would't be able to tell so much that its silver.

Television companies just use the color which they think will sell better to the masses at a certain time. They choose a color which is hip at the time and that most people will find appealing. I think the next color will be white, people seem to like that color on electronics now, like the Ipod.

I agree. Seems the only manufacturer that has any imagination on design and colour are Bang and Olfsen but its only relvant if you have squillions to spend on their TVs.

They used to be wood effect.
Then they decided that was old-fashioned and they came in black.
Now that's out-of-date and they come in silver.
Next they'll be beige - and then the wood coloured ones will come back.
You could always paint the case.

Fashion changes. A few years ago you could only buy black. And before that, only wood-grain effect...
