hey, let's say I drive on the left side (American car)..How can I calculate the distance between the car and the curb on the right so that I won't hit it while driving, the same questions to avoid any nearby cars?

Go very slow and watch in your mirror. There really isn't any way to do it other than getting a feel for how thick the car is. I'd reccomend finding a long straight curb and drive parrallel to it going very slow. Get closer and closer while watching the curb and the side of the car in the mirror. After you do that a few times you'll start to get a feel from how far away you are from it in that car. If you have power mirrors, you can actually point them down while you park to see your back tires near the curb. Practice, Practice, Practice.

American car?...it would be left hand drive, but you would drive on the RIGHT side wouldnt you? Anyways to judge the distance between car and curb and cars to your LEFT it's all in a guess, I take it that you're a new driver? well it's not a easy thing it's all int he guessing, You know how you drive and you notice that you're probably wobbling lane to lane? look at the car above you would be like...damn the lane is bigger I thought it was, because clearly your point of view is just blocked of. (blind spot) so try to use your mirrors to guide you. When you look at your left and right mirrors you should be able to see the lines on the ground...try to center your car right in the middle...that's what I do. It helps.

What I do while parking (not while driving quickly) is to open the door on the curb side so that I can see it.

As you are driving look at the middle of your lane that you are in. You will see that it is dirtier than the rest. Try to center your car over that dark strip. That is one way to learn your center. But when it rains you need to be care full of that dark strip. That strip is usually oil or grease from motors, oil and water don't mix.

don't rely on gadgets or gimmicks , just practice and pay attention to your sight lines and sooner rather than later you will be able to judge the distance to 6 inches or so. focus, practice
