Yes, in one sense you are correct. As it says in 1 Corinthians 14 :3; '... but one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation'.
However, there are two examples in Acts 11:28; 21:11; where a prophet called Agabus made two accurate predictions about the future

There are three answers.
The worldly believer view is fortune telling, or forecasting the future.
The spiritual believer view is a revelation of the nature of things which may or may not imply future events.
The cynical view which says I can write something vague and call it prophecy and someone later will find a match in real events and proclaim me a great prophet for writing it.

Prophecy is something that God tells a follower of him to tell another and it shall come to pass. If that person stays in the will of God,
Exp: If a prophet tells you that you will have a children's ministry in Texas and God will use you great fully, you stay in church and follow God that will happen, but if you later quit going to church, and never go back that prophecy will not come to pass.

For me, the Word of God written in the Bible is a prophecy that was told and happened, and it HAPPENS and WILL HAPPEN.
