it depends on several things.
if you rent a house/apartment, rent starts at about $600 for a semi decent place, and goes up from there.
if you own a house, it depends on you and the banks
there are groceries, utilities, transportation (Vic has a great bus system)
depends on the age of your child, if it is a child you are talking about.
the further out you live, rent will be a bit cheaper.

well, rent is anywhere from 500$-multiple thousands a month. food, is average. gas is pretty expensive 1.20$ish a litre. also, it costs more to be in downtown vicotoria verses the outer cities.
