Bill k is right the world would still have problems due to human nature. People would not be able to resort to divine authority as justification for their oppression, bigotry, and violence though. This would be an improvement. Maybe it would be helpful to base our governments and policies on reason and evidence about what works best in achieving good results and peace rather than dogma. I think in one area at least this would be an obvious improvement, reproductive health. No more telling impoverished families in third world countries birth control is a sin and go ahead and have eight kids even though half will probably die of childhood disease or starvation. No more don't use condoms even though HIV runs rampant. Also, the ethics of individual rights would advance more easily as prohibitions against being different even though it doesn't harm society would have no basis. I don't think we will find out how this will work though. Religion isn't something you can ban, that would violate human rights and has been shown not to work. People have to decide for themselves. I think this trend will slowly go this way as it is now in most prosperous developed nations but not entirely and I think more likely that less dogmatic and more individualistic religious sentiments will replace the existing paradigms rather than no religion. I think we should strive for secular governments though. They definitely appear to do better for societies.

Actually, I think it would be worst.. Only a handful of religious extremists are responsible for giving religion a bad name, most religious people are actually kept back from doing wrong. If there was no religion people would find other ways to group themselves (ethnically, racially etc.). The human factor (the reason we do wrong) is innate to all of us. We are all born greedy and think ourselves to be first before placing someone else first (just go to your local preschool and watch the kids for ten minutes) this behavior is not learned, in fact we are all born with it. Without some of the constraints religions place on people, who knows what a horrible place this world would be. In essence mankind is not good, in fact we are all far from being good and this is why we need a savior, now you see the need for a relationship with a savior as opposed to a religion which is man-made. Once you establish a relationship with the savior (Jesus), you realize that all religions fall short and that instead of proclaiming and living up to their doctrines people eventually come back to their innate human behavior and do just the opposite. But isn't Christianity a religion too? Well, yes and no!! It is a religion in the sense of a structure with set beliefs and set functions, however, true Christianity is a relationship that carries itself into what most people would call a "religion". There are many so-called Christian churches that fall far from the true meaning of what being a Christian is all about, but this proves my point that the human factor is everywhere and pollutes everything. The only answer is to accept Jesus as our savior and let Him guide us.. Blessings

It's an impossible scenario, as far as I can tell. As long as humans have been around, we've worshiped something. A world without religion is a world without humans, so you might as well be asking about a world without art, or language, or advanced tool-making. Roll the calendar back a couple million years and there's your answer. It doesn't look screwed up to me. In a lot of ways, it looks more serene and natural. I see hunter-gatherers living in small nomadic tribes, not a civilization of morally-depraved psychopaths. That is what you were insinuating, no?

John Lennon wrote a song about that and was shot to death because of it. The killer would sing "Imagine a world without John Lennon." The world would be screwed up without religion. If everyone would just try to be nice to one another then we would have a better world. If we could stop child abuse then that would be a start. If we could stop poverty that would be a start. If we could get people to use birth control then that would be a start. If we could get the wealthy to give up more of their money for charity that would be a start. Ect.

Awww my favorite question .... i love to quote Dawkins for this..
" We'd all be freed to concentrate on the only life we are ever going to have. We'd be free to exult in the privilege -- the remarkable good fortune -- that each one of us enjoys through having been being born. An astronomically overwhelming majority of the people who could be born never will be. You are one of the tiny minority whose number came up. Be thankful that you have a life, and forsake your vain and presumptuous desire for a second one. The world would be a better place if we all had this positive attitude to life. It would also be a better place if morality was all about doing good to others and refraining from hurting them, rather than religion's morbid obsession with private sin and the evils of sexual enjoyment."

impossible. yet basically for mind's eye, it will be some what surprising to me. as a results of fact i'm no longer a Filipino anymore. the international could be a miles greater perfect place i assume with out Filipinos. In my own reports and fact, the greater Filipinos the greater headache esp. in a corporation. as a results of fact of gossips and dirt throwing to a minimum of one yet another or calling names. interior the genuine international, the international esp. cares if the Philippines unexpectedly disappears from the map or on the face of the earth. as a results of fact we are component to the UN normally or the union of distinctive countries of the international. we are properly widespread esp. in terms of boxing and vogue and entertainment. in case you go with to do away with Filipinos mind's eye is the only ingredient achievable, as a results of fact Filipinos are right here to stay even for one thousand years. If we've been component to the U. S. territories we are nevertheless reported as Filipinos yet under the U. S. administration. that's barely now we hear the be conscious Fil-Am for the period of the 1940's there is not any such ingredient as Fil-Am. and in all probability the Philippines island is a lot greater perfect place than what we've impressive now. The prediction of the late President MLQ or Manuel L. Quezon that he particularly see the Philippines run like HELL by using the Filipinos than run like HEAVEN by using the individuals. His prediction got here genuine. we are in hell impressive now interior the palms of our very own Filipinos race. And in my view i do no longer think of our condition or the Philippines would be a Asia Tiger even for one hundred or one thousand years. i visit wager on it. we can be basically like this.

There'd be other things to complain about and fight over, but I still think we'd be better off without organized religion.

Well, in todays world it would be much better.
But with older generations, that weren't so scientifically advanced, I think it was better for them to have religion.
