I would recommend getting a driver's license before court. (At least make an attempt.) Other than that, dress up, be polite, and try to talk to the prosecutor ahead of time and try to work something out.

Dress up, you don't necessarily have to do a suit and tie, but it won't hurt you. Showing up too casual will hurt you though. Show the judge that you're a respectable person and he'll most likely go easier on you. Speak politely (Yes ma'am, yes sir, your honor, etc.), and don't bother lying . He listens to BS for a living, he'll know when you're being dishonest.
On the flip side, if you go into the courtroom in baggy jeans and a **** the police T-Shirt, and tell the judge to quit playa hatin', it's not going to be a very good day for you.

I don't know what you mean by an invalid drivers license. If it's phony, then it's a criminal charge. Expired, get it renewed before the court date. Dress is a respectable manner.

No, mug a bum and steal his clothes and wear them to court. When you get to court, be sure to tell the judge what an asshole he is and how the kangaroo-court he presides over resembles your kindergarden class. All of this behavior will get you sympathy from the court and you will walk away a free man!

If you can, get your drivers license valid again before going to court. (was it expired or what?) Best advice: Listen and don't interrupt!
