Reports indicate that John Travolta will not obtain treatment for his son's autism because his religion, Scientology doesn't recognise it as a valid condition.
I am bewildered as to why people are of the opinion that he can do as he pleases because it's his son, and no-one else should be able to decide the rightness or injustice of his decisions concerning his son.
Why can't we condemn the actions (or inaction) of someone that prevents a fellow human being from living the best possible life he can?
I dont get it.
I understand that treatment of autism is not always effective, but it is almost always effective to some degree and the earlier the better.
What do you think?

listen to all the apologists for immorality. When another human being is being mistreated, I feel bad ok?
Selfish freaks.

And I know he gets no treatment because Travolta denies he has a problem! It isn't rocket science you dullards! It doesnt exist according to scientology.

janeinla - maybe you should read Hubbards literature and see exactly what he has to say about autism. Maybe you need to pay another 100,000 to learn though?

That is the plight of religion. People do ludicrous things in the name of their faith, and no one can touch them.

Do you have a link for any of this? It doesnt sound quite right.
I tried to find some and came up with lots of sites talking about but most of the site names were pretty funny. Nothing I would want to say was my "source" :) The only ones that seemed like real news sites, all of the talk of autism and such was in the comments by people like on here. As far as I can see most of it is debate between the disease that the Travoltas say it is, and knowledgeable internetters saying its autism.
And I didnt hang around Scientology all that long but I dont remember anything about autism. Was that even a word in the 1950s? In any case they wouldnt be against treatments. In fact as far as I can figure they would love most of the treatments except giving any downers to make him "more manageable". But their quiet conversation and patience stuff would be great.
I know that my stuff is all guesswork but as far as I can see, so is the rest of it.

Who says Scientologists don't consider autism an actual condition?
I've been a Scientologist for 17 years, I know a few Scientology families with autistic kids, and I know that they consider it an actual condition.
Where did you hear that ridiculous rumor?
Gosh - people will believe anything! (Have you heard the one that Christians drink blood? Yep! That's one of the reasons they were thrown to the lions - it was a rumor widely believed.)

Why is his son any of your concern? It's not like they're denying him life-saving cancer treatment. Autism isn't something that can be cured. I have a cousin that is mildly autistic and functions rather well without treatment. I'm sure they would do whatever they need to do to make sure their son gets proper educational help. I mean, you don't even know how severe his autism is. I think you need to mind your own business.

So what "Treatment " exactly do you think he needs?
Drugs to keep him in a stupor? ~ when from all reports he is a happy child?
Something similar to ADD tablets which are in effect speed to make him concentrate~ on what may i ask ? Things he will never learn which will only frustrate him more?
How do you KNOW that Jett gets no treatment?
Do you sit outside the home with a pair of binoculars?
This is a happy child~ yes he is different but who gives a rats A**?? He is a happy child dancing to the beat of his own drum.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
AND STOP BELIEVING EVERYTHING YOU READ!

So, what is the problem?
My granddaughter is Autistic, and it does not require medical treatment of any kind! She is high-functioning, and does just fine!
The basic treatment for Autism is early intervention, and I am sure that the Travolta's will make sure that he gets whatever special education their son will require!
I am sure they would not appreciate your interference! Worry about something else, this child will be fine!
