That's absolutly ridiculous. Why should atheists be allowed to marry? I doubt they'll be having Christian/Catholic/Jewish/Muslim/etc. weddings anyway. Marriage has nothing to do with religion. Next you'll be saying we should put all the atheists in camps where they can work at building more churches and be kept away from the rest of society.

I Don't think it is wrong for anyone to marry.. I just think it's pointless! If you are in love with someone and you want to spend your life with someone, you do it. You don't need any religious ceremony, or civil ceremony.. all you need is a social ceremony, you know booze, presents, music dancing and the public declaration of your love. All the legal rights come automatically anyway, ie Common law partner. This way if things don't work out, it's easier because you aren't legally married and you don't have to spend money to say you aren't... legally. Personally I don't care who gets married or doesn't because to me it's pointless anyway, I'm never going to do it so I don't really care....

There is no reason for it to be wrong for an atheist to marry. Marriage is independent of religion. Separation of Church and State.

Why would it be wrong? Marriage can just be a civil union with no religion involved.
Marriage gives people rights and responsibilities. Things like SS benefits and being covered under the others health insurance. Also making medical decisions and if you divorce the courts are set up to decide on things like child support and asset division.

Marriage is a social contract that the church claimed as one of its 'sacraments'.
I believe that its wrong that we need a license to marry, yet people are permitted to breed freely.

marriage existed long before christianity, and will exist long after.
the taborites and the levelers were two christian sects who believed it was wrong for christians to marry (since by marrying they are imposing a lien on God, Who alone should decide which woman belongs to each man).
and david koresh ignored marriage - he was a good christian.
