My cats seem to be chasing down alot of flies and moths which is perfectly understandable. But then they just gobble them up like a tasty treat. Is that normal/healthy? Does it indicate some deficiency in their diets or is insect gobbling normal cat behavior?

Catch Flies

Yup, its normal. Great fun to watch while they hunt down the insect too, especially if they "loose" it for a bit and then find it again. Our one cat loves to hunt spiders. She doesn't always eat them so we find spider bodies laying around the house, mostly in the bathroom, most of them missing legs. Be careful though, we did have one cat that never learned hunting/eating bees wasn't the best thing. She caught one and ate it, but in the process managed to get stung and her lower lip swelled up. We took her in to see the vet, and we were told just to make sure it didn't interfere with her eating/drinking and that she would be fine once the swelling went down. She was fine, and a few days later was hunting bees again.

Yes it is perfectly normal for a cat to eat insects. Flying insects tend to catch the eye of a cat and the cat will want to pounce on it and eat it. My cats love to play with anything that moves really. They make good insect catchers though and make it easier for you indoors.

there is not any longer something incorrect with your cat. My Ebony is a strictly indoor cat so ANY malicious program is prey to her. whilst she catches a consumer-friendly homestead fly that's a snack to her (i'm thinking it in all probability tastes 'basically like hen'). countless the different bugs she catches she does not eat, some she does.

Sure.In the wild, cats eat insects all the time.Wild kittens ,especially, catch and eat insects,as they are easy prey and are a good source of protein.Wild and domestic dogs will eat insects, too,as will primates and many other animals.

My two fly hunt together and it's a blast to watch. Last week they tracked the biggest fly that I have ever seen and cornered it in the bathroom. It's sounded like they were having a wild party in there. One finally whopped it with his paw and ate it. The other one missed seeing that and spend the next half hour continuing to search while the "full" one took a nap in the sink.

Normal, healthy protein snack.

Personally I think it is normal. My cat does the same thing. He is constantly going after anything that moves and eats it. I guess you never know if you like something until you try it. Maybe that's what cats do too.

The majority of cats that I have owned love to stalk, catch, and eat insects. I have never seen any ill effects from it.

It's pretty normal. It's just like a cat catching flies. It really just gives them something to do, and something to eat. Just make sure they don't eat to many of them.

Yes, this is perfectly normal.
Just like cats catch birds and mice, the are hunters and flies and moths are their prey.
