This condition has gone on for a couple of months, appeared to begin as an allergy, then a glob of mucus came out one day, when he pressed on the inside of his eye at the bridge of his nose, so he thought it might be a clogged tear duct--but now the redness is back again, and the weeping is occuring.
Any experience or thoughts one may have are welcome. He has no medical insurance ...like 38 million other Americans.

It sounds like your friend has a blocked/infected tear duct. It might be time for him to see a doctor. If it's something like pink-eye or another bacterial infection, he's going to need antibiotics to deal with it. I don't have insurance either, but if it was a choice between paying for a doctor or losing my eyesight, I'd definitely find a way to go!

In every major city in America there is at least one free clinic and three free nurse toll free numbers. Please do a google search for your friend and have him get this checked out. You don't want to mess around with any infection that has gone on for months- particularly not one around your eyes.
