I have seen this question on here a million times. People say that if we don't let illegals continue to work here doing "the jobs no american wants to do" the price of onions will go up to 40.00 a pound.
Cant we just send them home and subsidise the farmers with inmate labor. The inmates will pick the crops and the farmer would pay the state minimum wage for each inmate working for him and the inmates would get the 30 cents a day they usually would get for doing work in the prison and the remainder of the wage would go to the prison to defray cost of housing the inmates.
This would kill many birds with one stone. We would have no need for illegals, The inmates would not just be sitting in prision on the taxpayers dollar but they would be giving back to us. The farmer would get his low cost workers, Our prices would stay the same and we wouldnt have to spend as much tax money on prisoners.
Would you be for or against this and why?

I know there are people who are legal and would do these jobs, but you always here the claims of how there would be no one elft to work these jobs. If there are any industies not able to fill their work force wouldnt this be a better solution than allowing illegals to stay and for employers to under pay them and take advantage of them.
It all comes down to employers who are making a lot of extra profit off exploiting illegals and liberals marching for the employers right to do so.

ADDITION: Illegal and Proud! sorry to tell you I have never collected a uneployment check in my life and why would I want to take a cut in pay to go pick crops. I would rather have prisioners doing it than having illegals doing it. I am sure many americans would fill the jobs but the ones that are not filled can be filled by prisioners negating the sky is falling liberals concerns.
Pachl: I agree with you when I was in high school we use to spend part of our summers detaseling corn. We made pretty decent money doing it. It was hard work but kids turned out in droves to do it.

There might be a need for some sort of worker visa, but most illegal immigrants aren't in the field picking crops, they are doing hospitality, restaurants, construction and landscaping. All jobs that many legal US residents would like to do if given the opportunity.
Teens, high school dropuots, people without a college education and the poor are the ones most affected by illegal immigration.
What bugs me the most is that economists are saying that illegal immigrants don't depress wages. But these are the same people that teach us about supply and demand, right? The more employees, wages get depressed. Except in the case of illegal immigration it seems.

Only about 3% to 3.5% of illegals are engaged in picking crops, the type of jobs that are considered "undesirable". In Europe, kids from all over the continent flock to do this work. It's considered kind of a rite of passage. It's considered a fairly fun way to make a little money.
How were crops picked before illegals? The reason the wages are so low is because there are so many illegals willing to do it for cut-throat wages. I have never heard anyone say they wouldn't be willing to pay more for fruits and vegetables if we could get rid of the millions of illegals.
Most of these crops could be harvested by machine, but farmers aren't willing to buy the machines because the relative cost is too high. Some crops still don't have harvesting machinery, but if the demand arose, someone would invent a machine to pick anything, from tomatoes to raspberries.
We don't need inmates to harvest crops. There are lots of people who can do this work. It used to be common for high school and college age kids to pick crops in the summer. Girls used to work as maids in resorts, hotels, and restaurants while the guys did more physical work. We've been conned into believing that, if the illegals left, no one would take these jobs. That's nonsense. As I said before, a maximum of 3-1/2% of the jobs performed by illegals are ones classified as difficult to fill.
If prisoners want to pick crops, let them. Fresh air and some honest work might give them a new perspective on life.

There is no way now to know for certain if all these illegals and legals that are working for different companies have been sending the tax and Social Security monies collected into the different agencies in the persons name. You're concern about money going out of this country, look around at the immigrants and how they do business, no credit cards, pay in big bills because they don't have bank accounts. You would have a hard time tracing where their money is going and for what. There are alot of ways that would cover this page of how people are and can get away with sending money out of the United States. One thing you have forgotten is our own Government sends alot of money each month out of this country in the name of Social Security. That is money that yes the people work for, but it was made in the United States, should remain with in the States. We are expected to send money out of our country and still support both legal and illegals that have no means to support and take care of themselves.

There are no jobs that Americans aren't doing or won't do - this is a lie spread by the illegal alien pressure groups. Having prisoners do the work is a good idea but there are already millions of able-bodied bums that will do the work when the illegals are deported. They will be forced to do the work we stop giving them their welfare checks.

There are people all over the world that would pay to come here and work, there might be a transition but in the end, we the citizens of the USA have the right to set and have our immigration for our wants and needs, not for the illegals wants and needs, no matter how many, hard working or well intended

Salaries are all about supply and demand. With the addition of 20 million illegals, the the supply of labor goes UP, the salaries go DOWN. With them out of the workforce, those salaries will go up.
And PS--before we were invaded--and yes I mean invaded--out lawns got mowed, our houses cleaned, our crops picked. It all happened. Who do you think did those jobs then? Americans

good question, thats why the 12 million plus illegals will never have to worry about a government reaction. they might fool people by building border fences. but half of those people leave, and the economy could face a major blow, see what happened to the economy months ago when a simple misunderstanding of forex predictions went wrong.
