Painting a small room white (Walls and ceiling) will give it a larger, more open feeling. Than if you carefully (Don't go over board here) accent in mildly bright or even dark colors it will give it a welcoming look but still not look and feel so small.

A good way to go about this is to do all your base painting first. This would be all the whites. Than take something you like in an accent color and sit it or fasten it to the area you would like to paint or accent that color. Than step back a few feet and look at it from a distance.

While looking at it and pay close attention to how it makes you feel. This will help you a lot in deciding if these color combinations will work for you.

Keep in mind that what ever you choose for accents is where a person's eyes will naturally be drawn in your room. It will draw your eyes away from the smallness of the room and away from the walls and ceiling. So you want to do it tastefully but not over do it.

Really bright colors would have a tendency to over do it, but pastels if really light might blend in too much. So you want something sorta medium in color (Not too bright and not too dark) so it draws your focus but still flows together and looks just right and relaxing.

I think you should use some kind of spring time yellow with red designs and stuff :]. You can make that look country, but that's just something I had in mind for a while and I just thought I'd like to share. But I think lighter colors will make your room look larger. If you pick a dark color, your living room will look even smaller than it already is.

Definitely stick to lighter colours. Dark will definitely give a really closed in feed to the room. Maybe get some nice reasonably large mirrors because the give the illusion of the room being bigger than it is. Try not to clutter too much and keep table tops relatively free of books etc. You like the country colours so a pale blue or lavender would be really cute especially if you have some cushions or table clothes in a small gingham check pattern. Enjoy decorating. It sounds like fun. :-)

Light, bright colors will make your room seem larger. Sherwin Williams has a "lifestyle collection" tab on their color visualizer; it has shows coordinated color schemes for various styles of decor. Since you said yours is country, I clicked on the "rustic cottage" colors, and it suggests "venetian lace" for the wall color and "sporty blue" for the trim. I think it looks great.

Just click on "paint an interior," choose a room, and then click on the "lifestyle collection" tab on the left side.

Light colors make a room look bigger. Stay in the off-whites to beige's and use bolder colors to accessorize.

. . . Yellows mainly, especially light tones like Lemon and/or a mix of 'off-whites' blended with green or light browns around the skirting boards . . . etc;

Hope that helps your next project

Paint in cool colours, like Lt. blue, sea-foam green, lavender, soft pink, beige, or egg shell.

I think bright colours will. You can also put in mirrors to make it look bigger.
