can we Christians trust you to be honest if you can't sincerely swear to God or swear on the Bible? To tell you the truth, that's why Christians would never vote one of you into public office. We don't trust anyone who can't swear on the Bible. Everyone knows that once you swear on the Bible it renders you completely incapable of going back on your word without condemning yourself to eternal torment. We want our honest folks to fear God, and the liars to suffer in the lake of fire.

Doesn't this make sense to you?

You will have to just take it on faith that we're honest.

I guess no one, not even your ministers are actually Christians then. I know for a fact that I see in the media on a daily basis that meth smoking and accepting services from homosexual prostitutes are the moral acts of religious figureheads.

I also see that the church has used this hell concept to inflict fear into the people for money and probably to get their jollies.

Anyone can swear on the bible, the ramifications for putting your hand on a book don't mean anything unless you personally put a value on the book.

As for not being able to trust anyone because they dont believe in your god. And I have always wondered how 'a rock, an unchanging god' can be so different from the Old Testament to the New Testament. From what I see, he/she/it is made out to be this loving, caring, generous being that loves you immensely. On the other hand, if you don't worship him completely, you are condemned to 'the lake of fire' with worms and the gnashing of teeth.

I am very well versed in the bible, but the inconsistencies are too overwhelming for me to do the Christian thing and 'just have faith'. I am sorry, but I have been told my whole life to think for myself.

One cannot judge morality by a fixed standard on people with a different moral code. Because certain ideals are important to you don't mean they will affect other people in the least. On that note, Christians are immoral in my eyes because they do not live up to the expectations of their religion in that if one says they are sorry for screwing up, all is well again.

Why would an atheist or even a theist swear on a book they don't believe in? I could have you swear in on the 3rd Harry Potter book and you would have no problem lying under that oath.

To say that swearing on a holy book makes you incapable of lying is the same thing as saying praying in one certain direction a few times a day will give you eternal life after death. It's a man-made issue made to keep people in line.

I think you're asking this question as a joke, right?

Christians lie all the time. Christians don't have better morals than anyone else. Most Americans are Christians, yet America has a HUGE crime rate.

Anyone who needs a book to tell them that murder and stealing are wrong is a sociopath because those things should be common sense on account of the fact that you know you wouldn't want to be murdered or robbed so you can figure that no one else would either. Therefore it's not a nice thing to do to someone.

Absolutely Dave, oops, Pull My Finger -- A long gaseous Phooosh is heard and a green heavy gas creeps across the floor. DON'T LIGHT THAT MATCH !!!

A resounding BOOM.

We all die like the infedels we are - or insurgents - us.

Christians, methinks, have a big problem with trust. PARANOIA sets in. Where's the damn(oh heck) Where's the Bible? Do you have an Atheist Bible? What's that? The Bargain Hunter? Yeah Yeah try that.

In great confusion we are rising to Heaven. OH my mistake, just flying through the air. We're falling !!!!

Oh my goodness gracious.

THUMP

I've seen many people swear on a bible... and tell lies anyway. Swearing on a bible doesn't mean a person won't lie.

See, I don't NEED a book to tell me to be honest... I'm just honest all on my own because it's the right thing to do.

And we've voted for religious folks for years DESPITE the fact that they lie even after swearing on a bible... guess that makes us better people, eh?

you will not need a god to fall back on if you live your life with integrity. The people who believe in a god do not really have pure integrity.
you say it your self. the only reason you are good is because you fear god. If you are only good because you fear god, you really are a bad person. because you are good for the wrong reason, you should be good just because it is the right thing to do, for no other reason. if you truly live your life with integrity and truthfulness you will not experience fear.
if you fear god you really know that you are a liar.
If you look at the bad people in the world you will find that they are religious and believers in a god
take all the honest people you will find that they have no use for a god. Look at the Pope, he is the greatest violator of them all. he preaches the life of J C but he lives tax free like a CEO of a major corporation. which he actually is.

As a Christian, I do not swear to God. I let my yes, be a yes and my no be a no. As the bible instructs. Regarding people having morals and not being a Christian, of-course this is possible. Anyone can follow the majority moral code within society and not necessarily believe in God or Jesus. It is all about choices. And as a Christian, I know that God is a loving and forgiving God. Anyone can be forgiven of their sins, before they leave this earth... It is not for me or anyone to judge, only God can judge. As a Christian we are expected to pray for those who do not believe, or are not living their lives according to the will of God. Just my opinion. God bless****

LMAO! If you think you can trust ANYONE going for some sort of public office, christian or not, there is something wrong with you. No matter who you are, the bible is still just a book.. Who cares?

No, it doesn't make sense to me. If you need the threat of eternal torment to make you tell the truth, how can you claim morality?

Isn't morality the choice of doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do, rather than doing it because of some system of rewards and punishments?

The atheists I know are very truthful and moral people, and it is shame that you cannot trust them.

What I can do is wipe my butt with the Bible. Would you vote for me then?
Honestly, more harm to humanity has been done because of that book than for any other reason. Why should we swear on a evil, archaic book?
