"The ground control station stated that the target was American and for the aircraft to confirm it," Forslund recalled. "The aircraft did confirm the identity of the target as American, by the American flag.

"The ground control station ordered the aircraft to attack and sink the target and ensure they left no survivors."

Come on.

It has been established that we told the Israelis that all US ships had left the area.

We screwed up.

The only thing I can say is that its totally dishonorable that the Government of the United States has so far done NOTHING in retaliation to the attacks. Everything was down played, and ignored, and turned a blind eye to. The Sailors were gaged.

And I don't think it was an accident at all. They circled at least twice before attacking USS Liberty. Al Qusier is smaller and less sophisticated than the USS Liberty, and also more importantly, Al Qusier flies an Egyptian flag. Not a United States flag like the USS Liberty.

Also I trust that for the Sailors and their families to campaign for 30 years straight is something. I tend to believe in our Sailors over the Israeli Government and their....Apology.

edit: Israel wont attack its only ally? Like we would do anything if they did. This is one incident. Their spy rings in the US and Australia are caught and still nothing.

The Liberty wasn't helping their case in the war. If anyone looks further into why it was there and how the war went in detail, especially on the syrian-israeli side of it.

The Stark wasn't an accident. Given what was happening in the region, it was a shot at the United States.

Maybe the Liberty was too.

no it wasn't.

and because of information now coming to light about the state of spionage and intelligence between the US and the USSR, the reason for it becomes clear.

let me explain.

you all need to go back in time and remember what was going on in the late 60's, US Navy Petty officer Walker having gone to the Soviets and spying for them while serving in our navy inside the ultra secret world of secret comunications, etc, giving the Soviets ALL our comunications and strategy secrets...

then armed with those secrets the soviets directing the Vietnamese in the taking of the USS Pueblo, which HAD the secret coding machines which used those secret codes Walker had just given the Soviets, making it possible then for them used the codes TOGETHER with the newly captured machines to break out codes and hear EVERYTHING we were saying to out troops, out tactics, etc (real reason for Viet Nam loss), but more on that some other time...

mean while, the Israelis in the middle of a fight for their lives against soviet backed arab armies, were uneasy about having the USS Liberty near by, relating back home to the US all the intel they were seen the Israelis do in their battlefield, and the Israelis suspecting that as we talked among ourselves about THEIR troops movements someone ELSE was also listening in to the converstaion...the soviets, which then would relay the israeli military info to their pals the arab armies,

the Israelis problably had figured that we have had our codes broken, and that the soviets were listening in, given the ability in the initial part of the war by the arab armies to maneuver, looking like they knew what they were going to do in advance, due to that the soviet backed arab armies they were fighting were been feed info from the soviets that they had gotten FROM us about them by breaking our comunications...!

so they had to take our spy ship out..! in order for their movements not to be revealed by us (without knowing) to the soviets...

and that is why they took out the USS Liberty...they had to..they had no choice!

we suspected that much too, that someone was INSIDE us giving away all our secrets, but it wasn't until 1983 that Walker was cought and brought to justice, after all of those years giving away our secrets to the soviets!

I don't think it was.To attack a ship over and over like that can't be an accident.I think the USS Stark was more of an accident.

I believe Israel is like an adorable small furry animal in a kennel of big dogs. Everybody says "he's so little and cute, how can he survive in there, he needs protected, oh yes he does". What they don't realize is that he does survive! What he doesn't have in size, he makes up in meaness, stealth and cunning. But oh no, he wouldn't dare bite the hand that feeds him.

dont let the media fool you...israel would never attack its ONLY ally...especially since the weapons they weild come straight from the u.s.

if they did attack it was a misunderstanding and was most likely not an order given by high command

OLD NEWS, 1967, Israel paid compensation, end of story.

Another feeble attempt to start an anti-Israeli rant.
