The Witch Song
by Bonnie Lockhart

Chorus:
Who were the witches, where did they come from?
Maybe your great great grandmother was one.
Witches were wise, wise women they say,
And there's a little witch in every woman today.
There's a little witch in every woman today.

Witches knew all about flowers and trees,
How to use all the roots and the bark and the leaves.
People grew weary from hard-working days,
Witches made them feel better in so many ways.

Chorus:
Who were the witches, where did they come from?
Maybe your great great grandmother was one.
Witches were wise, wise women they say,
And there's a little witch in every woman today.
There's a little witch in every woman today.

Women had babies, the witches were there,
To feed them and help them and give them some care.
Witches new stories of how life began,
Don't you wish you could be one? Well maybe you can!

Chorus:
Who were the witches, where did they come from?
Maybe your great great grandmother was one.
Witches were wise, wise women they say,
And there's a little witch in every woman today.
There's a little witch in every woman today.

Some people thought that the witches were bad,
Some people were scared of the power they had.
The power to heal and to help and to care
Isn't something to fear, it's a treasure to share!

Chorus:
Who were the witches, where did they come from?
Maybe your great great grandmother was one.
Witches were wise, wise women they say,
And there's a little witch in every woman today.
There's a little witch in every woman today.

An old Leonard Cohen song.

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Songs/chants running through my head tonight:
(1)
If the people lived as one
As if they were a song
Singing out of light
Providing music for the stars
Who go dancing circles in the night.

(2)
Circle 'round the fire
to raise the cone of power
to bring what we desire,
so mote it be.
Weave the magick by the moonlight
dance the circle all night long.
Weave the magick by the moonlight
dance and sing the witches song.

Both are beautifully powerful and uplifting. I wish you could hear the melodies.
Blessed Be

"Only One Song" by Sha Na Na. It's an oldie and it hasn't been released onto CD yet. I only have the vinyl but it's a beautiful song.

"Only one song in the world
Play it again, say it again
Only one song in the world
All the word are the same
All the words speak your name
Only one song in the world
Love"

I think the verses repeat after that but I'm not certain... I don't have my cassette with me and in the move I lost the needle for the stereo. But it is a beautiful song.
