I am debating between Army and AF, but my friends who were recently in the Army inform me that many Army jobs are not transferable into the civilian world once you get out. Is it difficult to get a technical job? What jobs WOULD qualify in life after military service?

Any info helps! Thanks you in advance!

You could contact a professional employment service and ask them. But imo, I haven't seen too many openings for Tank Drivers listed in the newspaper. :-))

Make it work to your advantage, if you enjoy cooking for large groups, you could become an Army cooky and be a chef at a restaurant. Do you enjoy computers/ programming/data entry? other jobs: Mechanic. Electrician, welder.

Google or call your local Army recruiter for what jobs easily transfer to civilian life.

This really depends on the job that you sign up for. If you sign up to be an xray tech you have great job skills, if you sign up as infantry, then maybe all is available to you may be law enforcement. If you are thinking about signing up, think about what you want to do when you get out and ask if that job gives you enough training to be on your own after. There is a lot more to consider though when people are not prepared enough to leave the military. The military is actually an pretty easy life style. You have housing and food provided. Many people join at 18 and never pay a real bill (besides maybe a car note) until they get out. This can also be a part of not being prepared for civilian life!

Chose Air Force over Army. Most job in the military are transferable but, there are some that is not. While you're in the service make sure that you get a degree while you're in. Don't sit around and said you will do it when you get out. Many civilian jobs look for degrees regardless what military training you have completed and work. That is one of the biggest problem for many military service men and women face when looking for a civilian job. Even they have work in that field in the military.

There are so many jobs that you can transfer over to the civilian world from the Army. Mechanical/auto repair, technical, computer, law enforcement, medical, clerical, flight operations, weapons, to name a few, depending on your military occupational specialty.

Remember, being in the Army is one of the best life experiences you can have. Military personnel are usually more reliable and have more discipline than their civilian counterparts. They know how to follow orders.

Any job that requires a state board examiation such as dental assistant or other medical jobs won't carry over. Technical jobs like electronics or mechanical work will. Go AF I was Army and how many AF casualties have you heard of in Iraq? MP or Aircraft maint. are good jobs.

Most of the Medical fields (MOS) in the Army and AF are recognized in the civilian world!

Many Army jobs aren't really transferrable to civilian life but many are. Employers aren't necessarily looking for specific job experience but they like ex-military for their responsibility, respect, attention to detail and the general good attitude that most service members have.

Transferable? As in you are driving a tank in the army and then continue the same thing in civilian world? Sure, they even let you take the tank with you...

I have recently been searching for a new job.
I have been using search engines on the Internet.
If you have a security clearance and are familiar with weapons systems, their use, and testing of the equipment, there are manufacturers that want YOU to work for them.
The areas are many. Electronic controls, armory, explosives, design, propulsion.....
Check it out BEFORE you enlist and select your career field.
Be sure to get into one where you will need a security clearance. Once established., Maintain it faithfully.
It will be worth a LOT.
