guard vs reserve doesn't matter, your job specialty/type of unit you're in has a little more to do with it. The guard has a lot more combat units, the reserve is more support. Both have about equal chances. The advantage is you can pick your unit & find one that just got back so won't be going again for some time while they refit/train. That tends to be a couple year cycle now days - what do you think's going to be happening in 2-3 years?
The bigger deal between the two is the guard gets called up more frequently for disasters, but also has much better education assistance programs since the state pitches in also (mine gives double what you get on active duty).

My husband is in the National Guard, and he has been sent to Iraq twice, and expects to go again. I am not sure which branch has the higher chance of being deployed, but in our experience it has been the Guard.

My ex husband is in the guard and he got deployed to Iraq for over 18 mths, and he had a 15mth old and a relatively newborn baby.. I've talked to him since he's gotten back and he said he wish he never would have joined the Guard, he hates it. Thats just one man's opinion though.

As of last Thursday 71, 609 National Guard had been mobilized for active duty. A portion of those are involved in Operation Noble Eagle, the defense of the U.S. homeland. The rest are involved in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

It all depends on the needs of the Army. So it doesn't matter if you are National guard or Army Reserve. If you are needed, you're going.
