You can either use texturizing shears (the ones that look like they have chunks taken out of the blades) and just texturize the ends or do what's called point cutting. Instead of holding your shears parallel to the hair, angle it into the section and just cut with the tips of the shears. This will keep from getting the ridge lines.

Lift the hair upwards with a comb and layer in an upward direction. You are cutting in a horizontal fashion and as the hair lays down that will show. Or use thinning shears, carefully.
