im 18 and my parents wont let me do anything.
how do i get them to loosen their grip, and show them that i can take care of myself?
i act responsibly and help out around the house, have a job, do alright at school, but they dont let me be myself.
They treat me like im a bad kid, and they are so dramatic! we had an argument and they said if i didnt stop verbally abusing them, they'd go to the police!! i dont even swear or anything! I have time limits on the computer, have to literally beg to go anywhere, even just to a friend's house, and they have a points system rewarding my 7 yr old brother and me for good behaviour!
why wont they let me grow up??

Is eighteen the legal age of adulthood where you live? If it is, you need to graduate from school (if you are in high school,) increase your work hours, find a place to live (with roommates if you cannot afford a place of your own,) and move out.

If the legal age to be an adult is twenty-one, you are going to have to stick it out until you are that age, and then move out and move on with your life.

Some parents just find it difficult to allow their children to grow up.

Are you still in high school or are you in college? It would help to know that. At 18 you are legally an adult. They cannot call the police because you are arguing. Have you tried talking to them about letting you do things. Tell them that you will be on your own soon and it is better to grow up at home where you have a support system instead of when you are out on you own. Good luck.

I lived with my parents till I was 27. Honey it does not change till you move out. At the age of 21 I was pregnant with my first child and I was at a friends house around the block from me watching movies and my father came over there at 11:00 pm to get me cause it was to late for me to be out. I know what you are going thru. Till this day I am 32 and live 1 hour away from my parents they still try to run my life. I got pregant with my 2 child when I was married and 30 years of age and the acted like I was 15. If you are the oldest that is what happens and it mite and change.

Parents have a hard time letting the oldest kid grow up. It really has nothing to do with you being a "bad kid". Tell them that you are not 5 anymore and you are too old to be treated the same as the7 year old......the point system is dumb. Save your money and find your own place.

They just think you are still the same 5 year old kid they had before. Some parents just find it hard sometime to accept that their kids are growing up. God Bless.

No its not that. It all about the control. They feed on the control they get like a drug. They will never stop im afraid. There is nothing you can do to prove to them youre and adult. This is all about them not you it will never change youll have to leave.

you are their little girl and they don't what to lose you. they are sacred. the world we live in now is more dangerous than when they grew up. talk to them about what are they afraid of and what do they expect from you. save money to be able to get your own place. ask them how are going to show them you are responsibliy if they don't give you the chance.
