Aspartame is made from amino acids. About 14% of the population is allergic to one of them. Allergic reactions are generally mild, but occasionally someone will have a moderate reaction. Aspartame is one of the few sugar substitutes that actually has some nutrative value, albeit quite minimal.
Several have referenced the Janet Starr Hull "Sweet Poison" web site. If you go there, or any other of these types of sites, read their Disclaimer. It may make you rethink about the site's content. Try to find the scientic papers and Doctors used to support the points of view expressed by the author of the content. Seldom do you see bibliographies at these sites. Why? Most of these sites are generated by "Alarmists" who are in the business of making money at the expense of the gullible public - me and you.

Aspartame is nasty stuff. The folks who're pronouncing "If it was once dangerous, the FDA could ban it" have absolutely now not learn up on fluoride. That stuff is evil and it is nonetheless accredited. Aspartame has ghastly facet-results, truthfully makes you crave carbohydrate, for this reason stuffing all possibilities of healthful, balanced consuming. The FDA base all in their trials on rats over a brief interval of time. It does now not experiment men and women over a life-time of use. Are you ready to gamble your wellness? I understand I'm now not.

I know usage of aspartame had been linked to higher depression rates a number of years ago...
I was drinking a lot of diet soda at the time, and was pretty depressed. I gave up the diet soda and felt quite a bit better. I'm not totally convinced, but it has convinced me to use moderation when dealing with all of these strange chemically altered "sugars".

It affects the brain in a bad way. I'm not sure how. All the studies that show it isnt bad were done by the companies who make and sell it. Why do we need splenda? Cuz people will find out about aspartame and sue eventually, thats why.

The human stomach has only recently become accustomed to digesting this man made foreign substance, so naturally our bodies don't initially know what to do with it. It is very difficult to digest, therefore causing excess acids in the stomach, leading to cramping and discomfort after continued use and in very serious cases, peptic ulcers.

This has always been a huge controversy, but my research thus far has proven that aspartame won't kill you, it won't give you cancer, it's just not natural. I am addicted to Diet Coke. I hate sugar but I am addicted to this fake sugar crap. It's not going to give you cancer, as some people claim. This has been tested in studies. The only bad thing, once again, is that it's not natural.

There is no evidence that it is bad, that is just macrobiotic paranoia. Soda isn't that bad for you either, as long as you get enough calcium and phosphorus, especially if you are a female and have small bones.
