An atheist, as you know, is someone who does not believe in a supreme being like God. However, when stating that there is no Creator God atheists have to explain how the universe and everything in it came into being. Naturalistic evolution is the only known way to explain the existence of everything without a creator. When presented with this enigma atheists can state that they neither know nor care how it all began. But that is simply deciding to ignore the facts instead of addressing them.
If you believe that the Giant Slime Toad sneezed out the universe then it is your God. You cannot be an atheist if you believe this.
We Christians believe that the Bible is correct. That means we have to accept and explain everything in it. That is not hard to do, though, if it is all true. Atheists know that all they have to do is find minute discrepancies to disprove the Bible. That is why they pick on verses they think are wrong. The challenge for Christians then is to answer questions about the Bible. That is a whole different field called apologetics. Some are better at this than others.
Since many things in this universe are very complex, organized, and purposeful it can be logically inferred that an omnipotent and omniscient God created them for a reason. Man designs and makes things every day. It is easy to discern a man-made object from a natural object. When you then carefully examine that natural object you can find order, design and complexity in it. Man can manipulate natural objects but he cannot create them.
The Intelligent Design theory basically claims that "In the beginning _______ created the heaven and the earth." Atheists don't like this because it implies "God." Creationists don't like it because it doesn't explicitly say "God." So the big challenge for mankind is to fill in the blank.

Christians have nothing to answer for esp. if a person is not interested. But why do you assume that there are only two categories of people - believers and non-believers? There are people in between of all shades just like the different life forms in various stages of evolution (if you will). The only difference here is the evolution of one's faith. You may have made up your mind but not everyone is as sure as you are.
Evolution and Big Bang theories are tied to atheism since they provide the only alternative to a creation by God. (You may try to advance your Giant Slime Toad theory too, if you so desire, and see how many takers are there!) And so it is only natural that atheists would question believers and believers would question the atheists. These theories form the club with which atheists hammer the theists which in turn makes the theists come out with explanations of their own. That is the way theories and beliefs are tested. And I think that is healthy for both. Whether one agrees with them or not is a different matter.

Christians make the assumption because atheists in general cite science as the only rational way to discern how we got here.
Now a question for you... Why do atheists assume all Christians are anti science, believe in a young earth and interpret every other story in the Bible as a literal account. All it means to be a Christian is that you believe in and follow Jesus Christ. I personally accept scientific explanations for how we arrived here. The Bible is not and was never intended to be a scientific text book.
The next time you want to rant go to a chat room.

I do not have to prove anything to you or to anyone else.
Does your belief make you a little slime toad?

They have also made up the word: "Evolutionist". I have never heard them referring to anyone as a "Gravitationist".
