They are about glasses about 5 inches tall, white wax, with Hebrew writing on the label (and thats about it). I somehow have a box of them....
Are they for a holiday? memorial?

Would it be offensive in some way if I were to donate them to a community center?

It sounds like a Yahrzeit candle. They are memorial candles.
Without knowing what is written on them I can not be totally sure. They will be 24 hour candles
I personally see nothing wrong with giving them to a community centre. It certainly beats throwing them into the garbage. If you are thinking about giving them away maybe a Jewish community centre or a Synagogue could tell you what to do.
This link might help explain about them.

Sounds like Shabat candles.
Shabat, Sabbath, is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
The candle is burned on Friday night to welcome the Sabbath.
I am an Evangelical Christian and also light candles to welcome the Sabbath.
However, I may also burn candles and incense on Sunday, the Christian Sabbath.
The Jewish Sabbath is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
Jews like to use specially made Shabat candles. They are fussy about the candles they use.
I am Evangelical and use any candle I can get a bargain on.

I think you are describing yahrtzeit candles. They are lit on the anniversary of the death of a loved one.

I don't think it would be offensive to donate them.
