I just got hired 2 weeks ago...and I put availibility for pretty much all hours of the whole week. But now, I'm finding it hard to keep up with school because I'm working on the weekdays a lot. Do you think if I ask my manager for shifts only on friday, saturday, sunday she will let me? I mean I'm still new, so like won't she fire me or something? since she can get someone who is more available...

When you talk to your manager, make sure to mention that you didn't realize how difficult it would be to keep up in school and work on school nights too. Otherwise, she may you were lieing on your application just to get the job. She'll probably be just fine with keeping you strictly on weekends, so long as you realize you'll be working EVERY weekend, and not be asking for them off. But school comes first, so if they won't understand that and work accordingly, quit the dead end job so your grades won't suffer.

Ask your manager. Don't be afraid, he/she knew that you are in school when they hired you. The same thing happened to me when I was in school and worked @ Burger King. I asked to work only weekend and the one day/week that was busiest during the weekday. My grades improved and the manager got the help on the weekends when it's busiest the most. Just know that you will work EVERY weekend, since those are the only days you'll be on the schedule.
If by some chance the manager is a jerk and will not allow you to work only weekends. Try to find another establishment were weekends would be busiest, and apply to work there.
Best wishes with your studies! And continue to put them first.

They do usually hire pretty easily. If you are applying for part time work, and especially if you are in school they are usually pretty flexible with scheduling. Now, you may have to work weekend hours you don't care for (early mornings, late evenings) but I would imagine they would allow a student to only work on Saturdays and Sundays.

well of course it depends on the needs of the store...
Generally speaking, it behoves restaurants and jobs such as these to ONLY hire highschoolers on weekends because your school work should remain most important and you guys usually have to be off by 9:00pm anyways. Just ask her honestly and make sure you maintain a high work ethic on weekends.

Just tell your manager your situation. Meet him/her half way, maybe try one evening a week, and weekends. That would be four days a week, and that's more than enough for a high school student.

Hmmm... thats a good question. I guess it depends on the location of the McDonald's and how many employees it has altogether. I don't think it will be too much of a hassle to change it. Just sit her down and be as calm and polite as always...Managers thses days have to be flexible if they want to keep employees....Good Luck!

I think the chances are good. A lot of others are always looking to be off on the days your willing to work. Try asking.

Just ask your manager. They won't fire you just for asking.
