Sister, I'm assuming you've been told, falsely, that Scientology costs a lot of money. Not so. As the Thetaalways fella said, for the price of a book you can get gain that other books cannot offer. Mr. Hubbard researched the mind and life for many years, since the 1930s in fact, before coming up with Dianetics and then further research into the human spirit with Scientology. I don't expect to get a "best answer" for that, but it is the most honest.
Purification Program: Not only cleaned the drugs and chemicals out of me, but I freed myself from emotional stress.
Communications: Many courses in this and why people can't talk in a crowd, how they've convinced themselves they're losers, and so on. I'm free from that now.
There are many things I could say on why I think it's worth many more bucks than they require. Why not get off your chair, turn off your computer and get out and live your life? Buy and read Dianetics. It's really the only route. Nothing else comes close.

Scientology has helped me a lot and the only money I have spend is the value of the books that I study myself. But if I had the money and the time I would hire a auditor and take courses. Why? Because sientology works. Most religions tell that you are a spiritual being. Scientology shows you that you are a spiritual being. Big difference. I would tell you the states of beingness that can be achieved you wouldn't believe me. I will tell you that it is a lot better than what other religions consider to be good.

Wow a real question (now lets see how many real answers you get)
Their communication course was a real saver for me. No one who knows me know would be able to understand how withdrawn and uncommunicating I was before that. Now I smile and chat with everyone, am in great demand for customer service jobs, love to do demonstrations, and pretty much jump at any chance to speak in public.
So much money? Not sure what that means. Different to everyone I guess. I was minimum wage at the time and dont remember blinking at the amount. About the same as any course at the community college.
I also did the Study course but unfortunately Im not a good enough studier to get thru it. What I did pick up from it I do still use.
After that, like most people, I just wandered away. It wasnt really the costs that bugged me. They werent all that much for what you get, I just didnt feel a need for them. I guess its expensive if you want to go all the way thru all of the courses. But at least they are flat rates up front.

As a Scientologist since 1972 I have to say that your statement that it costs a lot of money to "find out a better way to live" is simply not true.
All the basic priciples and knowledge that is Scientology is contained in it's basic books and lectures which you can buy for the same cost as you would pay for any other text books and CD's on any other subject you might want to study.
This is all the material you need to find out how to understand and improve life and the conditions of life for yourself and others.
You can study these materials on your own time and apply them to your life, which includes your family, friends, and any one you come in contact with.
(If you have problems with money or difficulties prospering in life the answers are there for you to change this condition.)
You can take a simple Course in Communication skills for about $50..... which will change and improve every aspect of your life.
Most of my personal gains as a Scientologist have come from learning this practical knowledge and applying it to help others change and improve for the better.
You can't really put a price on understanding life and having the ability to handle life in a positive way.
There are higher states of awareness and existence available that can be achieved . This is what the Church of Scientology provides as well as professional levels of training.
It is true that the church has various fixed donations for it's services. The amount depends only on the cost to deliver them and support the specific Church or Mission that is doing so.
The reason for this unusual financial set up for a Church is that Scientology is a new religion, only 53 years old. It does not have hundreds of years of accumulated wealth and property like other religions. It must operate and establish itself in the world according to the economics of today's society.
It selected the donation system it has as it's primary method of funding itself because it is the most equitable (fair) method.
Those who want the training and individual spiritual councelling should be the ones who contribute most to maintain the facilities that provide it.
For me it has provided the road to spiritual freedom that I had been looking for , not just for myself but for everyone else as well. And whatever money I may have paid to arrive at this point has also helped pave the way and build the bridge for others to travel across more easily.
Every Scientologist who has donated their money to move up these Levels has a better future for the whole of Mankind in mind, not just themselves.
What it has done for me is give me the ablity to help others, that was what I personally wanted.
What I have achieved in terms of my certainty and understanding of myself and life..... priceless.

I got Scientology for free. When I was a kid, my mother took myself, my brother and sister to a Scientology center in Washington D.C. After a first hour of fun, they had us kids stuffing and licking envelopes which contained their 'marketing'. We weren't the only kids in there though. There must have been 30 kids doing the envelope thing.
Hmmmm....
This is not a joke... it's true.

Scientology's "services" are NO more helpful within the organization than they would be if they were sought outside the confines of a greedy, manipulative cult. Scientology's "auditing" is basically a gussied-up form of psychotherapy and you can afford a lot more of it outside Scientology than within.
