Unless you are drinking vodka "straight up", you're foolish to pay more than $9.99 or so for a 1.75 L bottle of generic vodka, as 80 proof is 80 proof and when mixed into a drink with orange juice or such, one is as good as any other.
If you are into drinking it straight up though (or over ice with an olive), it DOES matter what you buy. Look to pay around $17.95 per 750 ml bottle for Gray Goose, Belevedere or Solchinza (sp?).

Buy Tito's. Cocktails with it taste amazing. It costs less than $20 a bottle, and the large handle can usually be had for less than $30. Easily the best vodka made in the United States.
