Ok over two years ago, I fell for a magazine scam over the phone(well I had to answer the phone because they kept calling at 10pm even 1AM!!!!!!!) so I fell for it and well my debit card was hot carded so I cancelled it. Two years later I went to get another one at the bank I had my first debit card, and well the lady said that I can't get another debit card because of what I did and it'll have to be approved by the committee. I told her that alot of people fell for that magazine scam it wasn't just me. She also said that she recommends I don't purchase anything online.

The only store I purchase from is Amazon and it is a SAFE site! so if I purchase online will she take my debit card away?

I didn't know bankers punish people who fell for a scam. who also shops very intelligently online. EVen smart people fell for this scam!

Amazon USED to have a way to go into your checking account as you purchase instead of using a debit card. But now a days they require debit or check

What happen was not your fault. You need to speak to the manager that is over who ever it is your talking to at the bank. They can do things your way or you take your business else where.

Savannah, I'm not clear as to whether you still have a valid debit card or not. You say it was "hot carded" and cancelled and the bank says you can't get another one. If you don't have a valid debit card, your Amazon transaction won't go thru. Can you clarify??

Next time you get hooked by a scam, don't just not pay, as they could give you a bad credit report. You should file a complaint with your state or local consumer protection agency. There may be state laws to help you. For example, in some states, contracts made by phone like yours was aren't enforceable until the seller gets your written signature.

If you're having trouble with your bank on this score, try filing a complaint with the state's banking commission.

You should have gotten a police report when you found out it was a scam. Do you still have any documentation? Check with your Police Fraud department and see if they can help.

Your bank sounds small, like a credit union - they have a committee?

If you DON'T have a debit card, why did you say, "The only store I purchase from is Amazon and it is a SAFE site! so if I purchase online will she take my debit card away?"

They can't take away something you don't have, so this is a little confusing.

It's a bad idea to use a debit card online. Frankly I really dislike debit cards period. But if something bogus goes thru, the money is out of your account and you have to wait for it's return.

Get a credit card to use online even at Amazon.

Try a credit union. Try another bank. I never heard of such a thing before. Fraud is not your fault.
