Join the Military Police Corps Of the Army

Sign up as an MP and tell them that you want the Dog Handler School in your contract.
Do that for a few years and then get out and go to the sheriffs office.
Yeah, thats power

To be a policeman you're better off having at least a 2-year degree. Some small departments will hire with that. Some will prefer a 4-year degree... and most good-sized departments will require a 4-year degree.

Step one is getting that degree, then attending a police academy and getting hired by a department. Getting into a K-9 unit is specialized training that you'd need to earn within the department... they usually put it up for bid, when they have an opening... and you'd apply for it.

in the military, K9 handlers are enlisted, and thus are not required to have a collEge degree. However, in most cases, K9 is NOT open to initial accessions, only to those who have been in the field a while, typically E5 or higher.

Well since you've asked this in the Military section I'll answer from the military perspective.

You need zero, none, zip, nada, zilch, not one credit. All you have to do is join the military, become an Army MP/Air Force SF/Navy MA or whatever the Marines call it and then get picked to go to dog handler school. Tada!!! K-9 Cop.

None...in this military you just have to be an MP, then get into K9 school. College has nothing to do with it.

You might want to post under "Law Enforcement". It depends on the department.
