The Bible says it's OK to sell your daughter to slavery.
Government says freedom of religion.
Could someone sell their daughter to slavery in another country and say it's part of their religion as an excuse to make money?
I got in trouble for asking this because everybody here in Tennessee are Bible pushers and not a smart Atheist like me.
And when my "friends" if that's what you want to call them, started treating me differently when they found out I was. I had been "friends" with them for over 2 months and all of a sudden I'm not cool enough to hang with them anymore. What's with that? Ha.
Not that I care, because I hate everyone here anyways, but I'm just saying, you can't treat somebody you've known for awhile and them considered you "friend" then all of a sudden treat you differently because I have a different religion.

I'm sorry your feelings were hurt but perhaps it wasn't that you were atheist but that your attitude sucks.
As far as for the slavery thing. It is illegal in the United States no matter religon or not. So if your trying to say that is contradictory to the second ammendment. It is not, and furthermore I don't know of any religon that practices the selling of their children.

LOL- I can beat that. I met this girl when I was ten. We were inseparable but when her parents decided to move when I was about 11 1/2, Ginger and I were so upset our parents agreed that they'd meet halfway (it was about a 2 1/2 hour drive) every once in a while so we could spend some time together. We did this and when she went to college, it was much closer and our family had moved into a town that was closer still so we were about 1/2 hr apart. We still only saw each other occasionally but were really happy to see each other when we did. When I was about 23, I finally admitted to myself that I was atheist ut didn't really do or say anything about it. A few years later, I had surgery, sh*t happened and afterward, I was determined not to let any religion be 'forced' on me. She kept asking me to go to her church and since I knew it was really important to her, I just would answer 'no'. After a while, it really started bothering me so I finally told her I was an atheist and had no desire to go to any church. She asked me why; I don't remember what I told her but she didn't have an answer and I haven't heard from her since. It's been several years. Talk about getting your feelings hurt! I still hope she comes to her senses and calls one day but I'm content with others I've met who have beliefs that are similar to mine.

One thing i m also surprised of what all religions sciptures kept saying from ages:this is the best religion of all so everybody should become folower of that as this is what GOD wants..
as if there are hundred's of GODs for hundred's of religion.
Sell ur daughter to slavery..for a moment think if she is not your daughter ?? then will it be okay is she is someone else daughter??? A big No..
selling to slavery cant be okay just becoz its coming from Bible..we used to keep our eyes ahead but still our tail follows compass of thousnads years old writing..perhaps then was okay for survival so written to bible but not now..
Bible and Govt..both are blind create more distance between ppl than bridging the gap..
Actors represent religion so many times during their career..in so many movies.and still they are accepted by all..so dear freind do some acting in ur life too and be happy forever..

You're funny.
If you are going to follow your religion, you will have to accept the civil consequences. If you are willing to spend the rest of your life in prison for your beliefs, then I say you are really dedicated to your religion.
If you are going to use the Bible as the basis (or excuse) for your new religion, you need to study it more thoroughly. The Bible may record that daughters were sold into slavery, but you'd be hard put to find a command to do so.
Anyone can start a religion. Many have and still do.
I will pray for you and will continue to pray for you in prison.
Oh, as for your Bible Belt friends, surely you jest.

religious freedom is often taken out of concept.
freedom of religion is the right to BELIEVE in anything you want.
freedom of religion is NOT the right TO ACT upon those beliefs.
example:
it is ok to believe you have to sacrifice a virgin at every full moon to your god (lets call her elune.) the law cannot harm you for believing this. you can even make any utterances to this belief in public without being persecuted. (though you might get frowned upon) you can also not be forced to accept anyone elses convictions on these points.
however! you do not have the right to act upon these beliefs. as they encroach upon the freedoms of others. put public safety at risk. or simply break previously established laws.
you have the right to believe what you want, you just cant always act on it.

If someone you know as your friend treats you differently because of your faith, then they are not your friend. On the other hand, if you are thinking that selling your daughter to slavery is RIGHT... then I wouldn't want to be your friend either. You should be behind BARS.
We need to protect our children, not belittle them, abuse them, and/or SELL them.
What the hell are you thinking?

dont bother with them, even if you all cant agree you could have still been friends. BUT... there are a lot of countries where they do "sell" there daughters, or barter them at the least. dosent make it holy, or right, no matter what sily old book its writen in.. i wrote a small book once, about how frogs ate my money and i was made queen of the world... is that right? cuz if it is, i got my pen ready.

Lucky, most of the laws of the United States supersede and are not the laws of the bible.

Your friends probably left you more because of your attitude instead of what you believe. No one wants to be around a "know-it-all" and put up with bad attitudes all the time. People like that are toxic and unpleasant and it sounds like you have a good start and have offended those who befriended you.
