No. Violence has NEVER solved anything. Just point out how awful it makes him/her look if indulged in public. It is an activity everyone indulges in from time to time. I once saw a video on TV where adults were picking their noses in cars stopped at red lights. However remind the child that opposite sex would find the habit revolting .....etc

what would beating him up solve? I have a 13 year old who is mentally handicapped and you would not know by looking at him but a 3 minute conversation and you would know and one of his autistic tics is that he picks his nose when he is nervous. What I do is say please stop picking your nose. Don't embarrass them that is not right.

Smack his hand and say stop it! Thats very dirty. People used to use the old wives tale that you head will cave in like the wind will change if u make an ugly face.
