No I don't think the PS3 is overpriced. I payed $685 for my 60GB PS3 back in December and I think I got a good deal at that particular time. Plus, the 60GB PS3 is just $20 dollars more than the 360 Elite and that's not much money.
As for the 80GB PS3, it does come with a free game so the price is just about right for it and isn't overpriced to me. If you were to purchase the HD-DVD attachment and the WiFi adapter for the Xbox 360 Elite, you would have spent way more money. The PS3 has all you would ever need built in.
If you want to talk about overpriced, I think that all of these HDTV's and crap are over priced. Seriously I would never pay a thousand dollars for just a T.V.

When you start looking into an Xbox 360 and need wi-fi, then you start to think that the Xbox 360 is overpriced. $500 is really intimidating, but when you add up separate components and compare them to the Xbox 360:
PS3
Console: $500
B/G Wi-fi: Free
Internet Play: Free
Rechargeable Wireless Controllers: Free
TOTAL: $500
Xbox 360
Console: $350
B/G Wi-fi: $100
Internet Play: $50 a year
Rechargeable Wireless Controllers: $20 per controller
TOTAL: $520 with one controller and 1 year of internet play
Then add what you get with the consoles alone:
PS3
Hard Drive: 60 GB
Media Player: Blu-ray
Games: not much yet
Graphics: Fantastic
Xbox 360
Hard Drive: 20 GB
Media Player: Standard DVDs
Games: Halo 3, Gears of War, etc.
Graphics: Great
no. The PS3 is not overpriced.

in case you reside interior the united kingdom, it somewhat is overpriced. yet another £50 can get you a 120GB new PS3 slender with a controller and it would in all probability have an prolonged lifespan than the fat 80GB PS3. in case you do use GBP, then i think of which you will desire to save up yet another £50 for a PS3. It rather might help in case you instructed us the place you reside so all of us be attentive to what foreign places money you employ.

Why would anyone think it is over priced ... Ps3 games are on 50 gig blueray disc, online play is free wifi is free, hd blueray movie player is free, multiple inputs (sd cards, compact flash cards, etc....) free rechargable controller, free internet browser, all that and more for only $499, The xbox 360 elite is $479 and if you want hd movie ability you have to buy the addon for $189, For rechargable controllers you have to buy the quick charge for $20, for Wifi you have to buy the wifi for $100, to play online you have to buy xboxlive cards at $50 a year....So to do just 75% of what the PS3 comes out of the box doing the 360 would cost over $700......
I love when people say what if you don't want a blueray movie player...Well the games for ps3 are on 50gig blueray ..more space for bigger games and better graphics without sacrificing anything the xbox uses 8gig dvds for games and when you spend 50 bucks on a game for the xbox 360 the game is so small that you can beat it that afternoon.....

No way man! Considering that that I don't have to pay an additional $100 for WiFi, $180 for a HiDef DVD Player, $100 for a bigger Hard Drive, $20 per controller for rechargable batteries and $50 a year to play online.
Plus, for all the fun I get out of it, I'd call UNDER-priced.

Like Nintendo Fan said, if you compare them PS3 is cheaper, also, Sony is losing money, Blu-Ray drives are about AU$600, then you have the Cell procesor and all the other things. If you just want to play games then an Xbox 360 is your choice but if you want everything PS3.

For the quality and accessories added into it : No
For the average gamer: Yes
Most people dont wanna spend more than 400 dollars on a video game console. Also most people are not up-to-date with technology. Thats why many people are buying a wii, cheap and simple to use. PS3's are increasing, 360 is increasing as well. Just depends on what you need and what you dont need

It's overpriced because it doesn't have the games or the graphics.
