(First off, to everyone who has answered here - an 8 year old is called a Poom Dan, which simply means Junior Black Belt. It is possible for these kids to be as proficient as any adult - and I have seen a few who are - so please don't knock it. I agree that it is too young to award such a degree, but that doesn't mean the practice should be abolished. Someone who is getting a black belt at 8 has been coming to class since they were 4 or 5, and if they've got a good instructor, they deserve the title. That said...)

Check out www.centuryma.com. There are tons of gift items to celebrate the accomplishment. A belt rack is a great idea, and they can even be personalized now. Of course, you could also go with a practical gift, say a practice weapon if he is about to start weapons training (which is not unheard of at the Black Belt level), a new set of sparring gear. Then there's the extravagant - a trip to Korea to visit the Kukkiwon. (just kidding)

Well, in grading I wouldn't give someone there black untill they are of the right age. Well, there is White then yellow then so on and so on untill you hit Black. That is a westeren thing, the true black belts went from White to Black the reason being is because. In old Japan / China, the students wore a belt ( White ) and after so many YEARS of training in the rain and dirt it after time turned Black. That takes more 2 years or three years and you don't understand the "Way" of Martial Arts at that age. You don't even know yourself. I feel that this school is just giving away Black belts so that people will stay in that school. You can have fun in Martial Arts but its not something to be taken lightly and laugh at. In my school there is NO Black belts under 18. Well, i'm sorry i just get frustrated with people just handing out Black Belts like that. It makes me wonder if they know what it means. Good Day.

hhmmm...wut to get an 8 year old black belt in taekwondo...
Maybe you can get him the latest set of taekwondo equipment if he's outgrown his...it might be quite costly...or have a place where he can put his previous belts...like a rack or something... If you go to Taekwondo tournaments, there is usually a place or corner where you can get them. Not all tournaments carry them. Or you can make a special cubby or place so he can put his uniform or get him a nunchuck, or buy him taekwondo shoes and encourage him to train harder now that he is a black belt. But I would suggest a new uniform, or new equipment since the equipment are changing. Well...Good luck!

A nice belt rack to display his belts. Get one with a few empty spaces so he can continue to see how much he can still accomplish.

And if he is a Junior Black Belt, or something similar, please update your question. You are going to get a lot of crap because most people think 8 is way too young to be a black belt.

There's a lot of effort going into something like this and any material gift will tend to be forgotten. I think something like this deserves a celebration. Maybe take her out with the family at a really nice restaurant.

I took Tae Kwan Doe, and you can't get your black belt until you are eighteen because for the black belt test you have to break things that an eight-year-old can't break. Anyway, just get the kid a toy. If you get something related to Tae Kwan Doe, it may not be as fun as that special toy he/she wants.
