You will have an amazing time during Mardi Gras. It will be crowded and you wont see all of nola but mardi gras is a great opportunity to visit the city as well. Will you be with someone from New Orleans? If not make sure to reserve a hotel room as soon as you can preferably on St. Charles. I suggest the Ponchatrain or even somewhere on Lee Circle. This way you won't have to bother with driving and all the best parades go down St. Charles. The parades consist of amazing music, floats - and large consumptions of alcohol. Parades start during the day and end at night but New Orleans does not sleep, so I suggest going to a concert at Tipitinas or just getting drunk. Now, I cannot stress more to you that the parades are the best part and even all my guy friends will say that as well. You will meet people no doubt and it will be the best bday of your life, you might not remember it but I promise. Begin by searching on the internet and looking for the parades that go down st. charles - Muses, Endymion, Le Krewe de Tat and many others. Just remember to stay with someone at ALL TIMES. Also, make sure to stop at Igors for a big old drink before leaving the hotel but honestly don't drive, there isnt anywhere to go and you can walk to the quarter. I know I just gave you too much info. but I don't think I ever paid attention to where we were going either, we went to Tulane so we had spots on the parade route and homes. Just get a lot of sleep before coming and you should be good. Please feel free to ask me any specific questions you have about food, nightlife, etc.

I'm going for my 25th birthday which is on Mardi Gras day (2/5). It's my 2nd time to MG since 2004 and I can't wait!! One of the best things to do during the day before the parades start is just walk around the different neighborhoods in the city and check out all the charm and character all over that place. The houses in the Garden District, the French Quarter of course, Uptown, St. Charles Ave, ect... It is such an easy city to walk around too. And there are so many places to get a drink and some great food.

Theres alot of other things to do in New Orleans, but if this is your first Mardi Gras and your 21st birthday i would say focus mostly on the parades. Theyre really fun and its a party from Uptown to Downtown, pretend like its all for you. Im over Bourbon, but youll probably enjoy it.

Expect large crowds, lots of costumes and expect to catch a lot of carnival beeds thrown from floats. Drink responsibly and you won't be bothered by police.

Be on the lookout for any clean, open bathrooms! There is nothing but drinking constantly, and it's a challenge to find a decent bathroom.
Scary that that is my recollection, eh?

Many people go to Bourbon St. to get drunk, and view the lewdness.
